The music of Montreal born composer/ pianist Marilyn Lerner has been described as exhilarating, passionate, virtuosic and original. She has performed internationally and recorded extensively over the past ten years. Her jazz work includes the solo CD "Miss Overboard" and "Birds are Returning - Marilyn Lerner in Cuba." She has performed with the likes of Sonny Greenwich, Jane Bunnett, Tito Puente and Steve Lacy. She has produced several audio art pieces and has also written for theatre and film. Marilyn is currently collaborating with such luminaries as John Stetch and Paul Plimley in a series of pieces for two pianos.

Lori Freedman is known internationally as one of Canada''s most provocative and creative performers. She travels to venues for contemporary, improvised and electroacoustic music, and crosses over frequently to dance and theatre integration. Over thirty composers have written solo bass clarinet music specifically for her, and her work has been recorded on 23 CDs, Just prior to the release of "HUSKLESS! Lori Freedman Live in Concert" (Artifact 20) she received the 1998 Freddy Stone Award for the demonstration of outstanding leadership, integrity and excellence in the area of contemporary music and jazz.

"They [Lerner & Freedman] have a remarkable symbiosis, with Lerner''s quite elegant lines sometimes giving this disc the sound of what it might have been like if Eric Dolphy had ever played with Cecil Taylor. Lerner''s powerful phrasing also seems to owe something to Stravinsky. Of the huests, vocalist Fides Krucker makes the most lsting impression with sometimes caterwauling, sometimes cooing lines recalling Lauren Newton, Maggie Nichols, and Julie Tippets. This is at times a forbidding disc, but it is ultimately quite spectacularly rewarding: Lerner and Freedman never repeat themselves, never lapse into cliches, and always keep the listener reveling in the sounds of surprise."--Robert Spencer, Cadence

"In this release, they play with greater abandon, aided and abetted by five distinct personalities who join them on one track each. At once more assertive and vigorous in their own forays, they are now carving out quicksilver designs full of tensile strength. Design as the key to all artistic endeavor? Indeed. But so is instinct, and a guiding light that now shines brightly on their path ahead."--Marc Chenard.
