MP3 Born Again Floozies - Novelties, Addenda, and Ephemera

Steve Albini describes them as “…a rock band with extras, but that’s comically understated. Kind of like

Biography
Born Again Floozies: a gleeful binge-- a wallow in the decadent riches of an affable imagination and a caustic wit.

(The Born Again Floozies live in the middle-western United States, the Great Lakes region, central lowlands-- aka the Bible Belt).

How to Have Fun in the Middle West:

Goad the Fearful

"Born Again Floozies? Now do ya''ll mean you''re reformed to bible-fearing ways, or are you born again to floozy ways?" In the Bible belt, this is asked more as a threat, than an actual inquisition (did someone say "inquisition?").

Get Off the Streets

Street performance is an art form developed from troubadours and gypsies: romantics traveling after their passion, unwilling to engage in any type of compromise. Joseph Welch of the Born Again Floozies has played the streets of the world with that same passion for years: from Sydney, London, Dublin, Athens and a zillion small US towns.

They''ve been called an organic version of the Flaming Lips, or a young Tom Waits ensemble but their style is undebatably their own, from the unique guitar playing, the unorthodox instrumentation to the writing. "I play the guitar like a piano, Libby and Amy tap dance and play a marching bass drum, and Ben plays the tuba. On the street, you better do something to stop people in their tracks, or you get lost in the madness of the city. I think we got madness beat.”

Beat Madness Beat

Their debut captures their vitality, sharp wit, and deep musicality by having the musicians play live together in the studio to analog tape (no computers, no beat doctor, no pitch-correction on this one) all captured superbly by Steve Albini, and mastered by Nick Webb at Abbey Road Studios in London. Albini captured the Floozies sound dead-on. "We couldn''t have captured that otherwise, so we had to get the hell off the streets. For a bit." says, Ben Vokits, tuba man for the Floozies.

Give Back The Mullets

"Some of the best stories I''ve heard, happened in the Midwest." Says Libby Milliken, tap dancer for the Floozies. Many BAF songs chronicle outrageous stories and social satire. From seeing a woman cut off her boyfriend’s mullet in retaliation, to seeing the Bud Light Girls appear at a cemetery for a promotional event: good times can be had-- or at least cheap, profound amusement can be had in the middle western US.
