MP3 Flipping the Pig - Pout

"While Flipping the Pig might only consist of Jeff Mansk and his eclectic and oft funny side, there are times when you feel almost reassured that there''s more than one person behind this madness; perhaps he''s suffering from a mental disorder..." - Smother

Details:
Who are Flipping the Pig? For now, his name is Jeff Mansk, a transplant from the Chicago area, currently living outside of Detroit. For the future, perhaps more or less.

He/it is essentially a chunky bearded guy sitting in his boxer shorts with a guitar...or a keyboard...or not...as well as other things...sometimes. Well into his 30s, he''s hardly a pin-up boy and, actually, has no aspirations of ever being a pin-up man for that matter. He''s perfectly okay with that, though.

What can be said of the sound? He''s been called brooding, hyper, weird, artsy, simple, eclectic, mellow, intense, friendly, intelligent, stupid. He’s been likened to folks such as Pink Floyd, Nilsson, Cat Stevens, Peter Murphy, “something off of the Pretty in Pink” soundtrack, and early Peter Gabriel. (Keep in mind this isn’t necessarily what he believes, it’s just what he’s been told.) This all could stem from a disturbingly wide variety of influences and a lack of concern for being pigeon-holed, other than, perhaps, under the category of "pop/rock."

Tthe tunes range from the acoustic twangy ode to the fishfly "364 Days" to the power chord in-your-face simplicity of "Pleeeeease" to the nightmare-inspired drone of “Hide and Seek.” The densely written lyrics cover topics such as life, death, love, hate, relationships real and imagined, his cat, a carpet, aliens, gay stuff, religion, and stream of consciousness social and/or emotional meanderings.

Fake horns and strings galore, guitars acoustic and electric, percussion, vocal harmonies upon harmonies; a voice that goes from a calm and sleepy croon to a quirky yelp; and perhaps most importantly, the welcome acceptance of throwing it all by the wayside if the song calls for something else. It''s all in there.

Simple explanation attempt #1: It’s the culmination of everything he’s encountered as processed through whatever he’s capable of recording and playing at the moment.

But, really, why try to explain it here. Just ask if you’d like to know more.

Thank you for reading.
