Street musician "Fast Heart" Martin Stamper is glad he relocated from Northern Virginia to Albuquerque in 1999 because, as it turns out, "New Mexico is so weird!"
Martin was christened with his nickname by a fellow hiker on The Appalachian Trail. Martin was born with a congenital heart defect, and the hiker was making reference to this condition that makes his heart beat too fast until he dies. Not to worry: Martin now has an internal pacemaker/defibrillator to shock his heart whenever it beats too fast!
Fast Heart Mart''s lyrics focus mainly on three themes: dropping out of society; the splendor of the Southwestern United States; and insects! His unusual songwriting has roots in Celtic, Bluegrass, East Indian, and Punk music. He plays his acoustic guitar in alternate tunings with a slide.
Currently, Fast Heart Martin performs in an acoustic duo with Roblyn Crawford on snare, hi hats and harmony vocals
Fast Heart Mart''s fifth CD, "An Orange Album", is an enhanced CD including a CD ROM viewable music video for the song "Hate Job" by director Arjan McNamara.
