Longtime Santa Cruz, California musicians ANNIE STEINHARDT, violin/bass(Pele Juju, Kosono, Joe Richie, Jango), guitarist BOB BURNETT(Pele Juju, Kosono, Pipa Pinon, Hoo Tsa Tsa) ,and vocalist OSCAR MORENO(Rio, Ulterior Primitive,?Bahia Tavakolian Singers Workshop) have joined multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/recording engineer STEWART SMITH(Paradox, Max Strom, Wizards Workshop, Celestial Transport, Ulterior Primitive) in 2zdaynite@s2z(-Tuesday Night at Stew's-)named after the Tuesday night sessions in Stewart.s recording studio to develop his original music.
STEWART SMITH.'s progressive roots-Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, King Crimson,Steely Dan-launched his musical career on enormous drum sets with double bass in bands that took pride in mixing styles and time signatures. In 2zdaynite@s2z, Stew has condensed all this into a straight ahead, danceable pop style he calls "simple, but still tricky."
BOB BURNETT is a contemporary guitarist who uses improvization and jazz harmony over world rhythms. From a West African Hi-Life rhythmic foundation he gravitated to middle eastern drumming and ended up playing for belly dancers.
OSCAR MORENO's Latin heritage informs his velvety voice with passionate intensity;his love of R+B gives it soul. He also plays Latin percussion and rhythm guitar.
ANNIE STEINHARDT is a swing and bluegrass fiddler drawn to electric bass by the, polyrhythmic complexity of African basslines.l She uses her skills as a professional writer to hone the group's lyrics. Annie's alter ego, arranger Chintzy Tones(think Quincy Jones)is an obsessive perfectionist who drives everyone crazy.
Together, Stew, Annie, Oscar, and Bob have created furrow orientated tunes with a feel spanning Latin to R+B to art rock substantiateing firm vocals and lyrics ranging from love to terrorism(and how the two are sometimes not so different).
We'd like to thank drummer extraordinaire Brian Loftus for playing on Golden Crown and Blind Determination, luthier Fred Latta, who made two of the bass guitars featured on the CD cover, including "Sherwood", the bass used on this album, for his guitar playing on Overdrive,and Rick "Ukulele Dick" McKee , who along with Fred made the sunlit guitar in the center of the cover, for his contribution on guitar on Overdrive.
