Crazed Out, the debut album from crazed outlook, offers new perspectives on relatively common subjects, such as dating, relationships and pop culture. The songs explore the superficial nature of our social climate in much more depth than most popular music.
Crazed outlook has often been described as Elvis Costello meets the Killers. The band cites numerous influences, such as Blur, The Railway Children, Interpol and Superdrag. The soundscapes on crazed outlook’s debut album flaunt current elements, while also flashing back through the past four decades. The album Crazed Out, however, transcends the pitfalls of sounding either dated or too contemporary, displaying a distinctive sonic presence.
The opening track "Spellbound" combines a 90’s rock groove, emotional lyrics and a Jimmy Hendrix-esque guitar solo, whereas "Karma" exudes a more radio-friendly, yet intimate, vibe. The horn-laden "Undateable", which vents about dating frustrations, has a retro-80’s mood not far removed from Phil Collins or Erasure, but with an edginess not portrayed by either artist. "Cute" takes the post-grunge movement in a new direction, combining cynical lyrics about the endurance of physical attraction with a dynamic blend of loud and soft guitars.
One of the most explosive songs on the album, "Pop diva" takes a multi-faceted look at the rise and fall of a stereotypical pop diva. The infectious "I’ll do anything" is about extreme infatuation, one of the reoccurring themes on the album.
Proving that good songs matter and always sounding fresh, crazed outlook puts the power in power pop.
