WILLIAM CATANZARO is a composer and multi-instrumentalist based in NY. Since arriving from his native Buenos Aires in 1989 https://www.tradebit.comanzaro has composed musical scores for renowned choreographers such as Anna Sokolow, Steve Paxton, Viola Farber, Milton Myers and many off-Broadway theater productions. His works have been presented nationally and internationally with the New Danish Dance Theater, TanzFabrik Berlin, Amsterdam Theatreschool, Cyprus Festival, Teatro San Martin, The Alvin Ailey School, Philadanco, Anna Sokolow''s Player''s Project, Dallas Black Theater, Jacob''s Pillow Dance Festival, DTW, and more. He has received recognition and funding from the NEA, The Samuel S. Feld Fund, New York State Council on The Arts, Harkness Foundation, NYU Humanities Council, NYU Service/ Learning Fund.
Mr. Catanzaro is the Composer and Conductor of MinM Musicians in Masques (https://www.tradebit.com) and Artistic Director of SOULSKIN Performing Arts Group (https://www.tradebit.com He has worked as an accompanist and taught music for dancers at The Juilliard School, Marymount Manhattan College, Limon School, Martha Graham School, New York University and for Ronald K. Brown/Evidence at Skidmore College and Mark Morris Dance Group at Tanglewood. Currently he is on faculty at The Alvin Ailey School, Sarah Lawrence College, Steps on Broadway, Jacob''s Pillow Dance Festival and is the Music Director for the Young Dancemakers Company.
He has two recordings as band leader on major labels and three independent editions of his theater and dance works.
Mr Catanzaro''s style is an amalgam of sources, he mixes genres from around the world. Latin American, West African and Middle Eastern rhythms create a tapestry of new and exciting forms. His compositions are based on traditional forms with contemporary arrangements. His approach is tribal yet symphonic.
This CD contains four powerful and extensive pieces composed for renowned choreographer Milton Myers that have been presented in many stages around the world to great acclaim.
