This mess we call the Cassette all started while on a road trip to Boston. Not having to drive, Brian found himself with little to do and alot of time to do it in. He began writing poems and in a gas station off the Jersey Turnpike collected them together under the title "Songs for a Cassette". Upon reaching his destination he borrowed his uncles guitar and began writing the foundations of the songs.
One and a half weeks later he flew home and fell head first into recording songs for this side-project. The songs would serve as a supplement to his work in his other, already regionally established band, "incisions". Upon finishing the songs, Brian put them away and didn''t make any plans regarding their future. What he did do, was give it a name. "These things never end well" by The Cassette.
Skip forward almost one year. Ex-band mate Jake Fusilier happens upon a copy of the demo and insists that the two of them learn the songs and play atleast one show. Brian was not interested but agreed that if Jake could find members, he would be a part of the band. Within a matter of days the spots were filled and a month later they played their first show. It was so successful that they decided to keep going.
Adding more members to acheive a fuller sound, the band welcomed Chance Walling, Heather Greenlee, Michael Donohoe and Paul Rogers to the group. Playing shows and gaining momentum continuously until their hometown was hit by a hurricane, the Cassette managed to gain fanbases as far away as Florida and Chicago.
The band has had to say goodbye to Michael as he will be attending the University of New Orleans the fall of ''06 but they wish him the best of luck and thank him for the influence he has had on the music.
Growing by word of mouth and exchange of their CD, the band has aspirations way beyond the small town that they call home. They have begun to establish themselves all over the south thanks to a mini-tour in the summer of ''06 and don''t show any signs of slowing down.
The band has invoked their influences (bands like Dismemberment Plan, Built to Spill, Pavement, Weezer, Dwight Yoakam and Queen just to name a few) and tried to create inventive and quirky ways of singing about the same old things. Embracing the adage that music must come from emotion, the band has been called "emo" and doesn''t even care.
