Lindberg’s music embodies the genre he calls “street folk”—
a biting, melodic blend of folk, punk, pop, hip-hop/soul, and Celtic styles inspired by and emerging from inner-city life. Lindberg’s raw, personal songs offer a message of hope and transcendence to society’s underdogs-- street kids, GLBT youth, addicts, the abused, and the poor— and have inspired comparisons to artists as diverse as Ani Difranco, Morrissey, David Gray, and Tracy Chapman. With a rich, plaintive voice, primal guitar style, a self- effacing sense of humor and smart, poignant lyrics, Lindberg makes music both intimate and universally accessible.

Coleman Lindberg got his start in the music business at age 10 performing his own arrangements of hymns and folk songs at the Methodist church he attended with his mother. Classically trained as a pianist and vocalist, a self-taught guitarist, and valedictorian of the Perpich Center for Arts Education class of 1995, Lindberg left Macalester College in 1997 to pursue the life of a professional musician and drifter. Since then he’s survived as a busker and a barista, a wedding singer and a waiter, a secretary and a songwriter. He’s released several independent recordings (both as a solo artist and with the queer power-folk duo Winter Machine), contributed tracks to several
compilations (appearing alongside such artists as Ani Difranco, Melissa Ferrick, and Pansy Division), and performed both nationally and abroad. Following a 2-year hiatus from performing, Lindberg returned to the stage and studio in 2005. Recent months have found him tirelessly gigging throughout the Twin Cities region in anticipation of “Making My Name,” his new solo EP.
