Clovis is a collaboration by an eclectic group of musicians from the Pacific Northwest. Defying categorization, the album features all original compositions which range in style from Hagberg''s sultry ballad, Blues for Julia, through Coker''s Brazilian-tinged Close Enough to Kiss, the Northwest fusion of Cooper''s Copland, and a tango by Bergeron, to Moore''s classic toe-tapper, Pépé Linque. All of it is anchored and propelled by Lear''s powerful and sensitive drumming.

With a doctoral degree in saxophone, Tom Bergeron is a musician with a broad musical palette. He has performed throughout the United States, and in Europe and Central America; and has appeared with internationally-renowned artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Anthony Braxton, Robert Cray, Natalie Cole, Glen Moore, Bobby Shew, Mason Williams, Guy Lombardo''s Royal Canadiens, The Temptations, and Marin Alsop''s String Fever. In addition, he has played saxophone with the Eugene (OR) Symphony, Newport (OR) Symphony, Grande Ronde Symphony, Eugene (OR) Bach Festival, Oregon Festival of American Music, Oregon Coast Music Festival, Cascade Festival of Music, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and Third Angle New Music Ensemble; and has premiered dozens of new concert works for the saxophone. A professor of music at Western Oregon University, Tom lives on Teal Creek in the foothills of Oregon''s Coast Range.
Keller Coker - trombone
Native Oregonian Keller Coker is an accomplished performer, producer and musical scholar, as well as a commissioned composer for stage, television, and film. He began playing trombone at the age of fourteen, and immediately took to performing as a jazz and classical trombone player. He has performed with such notable musicians and ensembles as Bobby Bradford, The Clayton/Hamilton Big Band, The Jack Sheldon Big Band, The Fabulous Dorsey Orchestra, Freddie Hubbard, Milcho Leviev, Vince Mendoza, Bette Midler, Bernadette Peters, The Coasters, The Four Tops, Glenn Moore, Bill Watrous, Mel Brown, and Snooky Young. He is currently active in the Art Abrams Swing Machine, Whirled Jazz, Soundmoves, and has played recently with The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, and Little Anthony and the Imperials.
Matt Cooper - piano
Matt Cooper was a bronze medalist in the Thelonious Monk International Competition and the Great American Jazz Piano Competition (1988) and has toured with Woody Herman''s Young Thundering Herd. His professional performance credits include Clark Terry, Eddie Harris, Nancy King, David Friesen, John Stowell, Howard Levy, the Blue Wisp Big Band, Rob Blakeslee, Alan Jones, Bill Berry, Les Elgart, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Roger Williams, Jamey Aebersold, Jim Pepper, Marty Ehrlich, and many others. Critics have described his improvisations as "thoughtful" (Washington Post) and "insistently original" (Eugene Register-Guard). Others have described his work as "tireless and masterful" (Dr. Sandra Ellston, EOU) and praised his "elegance and delicacy" (East Oregonian), "profound insight . . . stunning refinement and virtuosity" (conductor Kenneth Woods) and ".absolute clarity and sensitivity which truly touches the soul" (pianist/teacher Gail Swart).
Garry Hagberg - guitar
Active in music as a performer since the mid-1970s, Garry Hagberg started his career as a jazz guitarist in Eugene, Oregon, USA. While studying music (both classical and jazz) and philosophy, he toured the West Coast of the US with various jazz ensembles from duos to big bands, for years working in jazz clubs and concerts with his own quartet as well as with many others, during which time he appeared as a featured guitarist on a number of albums with other artists. A long-time collaboration with legendary guitarist Howard Roberts led to The Guitar Compendium, a major three-volume guitar method covering improvisation, technique, musicianship, and theory-the most comprehensive work of its kind. Hagberg has taught guitar in colleges and music schools for many years, and is also a professor of philosophy; he teaches theory of the arts and history of philosophy at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
Glen Moore - bass
Glen Moore co-founded the group Oregon in 1970 with Ralph Towner, Paul McCandless and Collin Walcott. That group is still touring and recording-with more than two dozen albums to their credit.
Other selected recordings include: Bass Is with David Holland, Jamie Faunt and Peter; two duet albums with David Friesen; albums with Nick Brignola, Jeremy Steig, Paul Bley, Annette Peacock; Introducing Glen Moore with David Darling, Zbigniew Seiffert and Jan Hammer; Dragonetti''s Dream for unaccompanied bass; three MOKAVE albums with Larry Karush and Glen Valez; three albums with Nancy King as "King & Moore;" and five recordings with Rabih Abou-Khalil. His most recent solo CDs are Nude Bass Ascending featuring Steve Swallow, Carla Bley, Rabih Abou-Khalil and Arto Tuncboyaciyan and King on the Road featuring Nancy King and Rob Scheps.

Graham has played drums professionally since 1968. He has toured and/or recorded with Gino Vannelli; Santana; Carlos Santana (solo); Allanah Myles; REO Speedwagon; Saga; Paul Anka; Tom Grant; Henry Mancini (Ghost Dad); Domenic Troiano; Jimmy; David Foster; and the Mexican jazz/fusion group Sacbe. In addition to jingles for Nike, Molsen and Avia. Graham''s recording credits include Gist of the Gemini, Powerful People, Storm at Sunup, Yonder Tree and Slow Love (Gino Vannelli); Moonflower, Inner Secrets, Marathon, Zebop, Shango and Viva (Santana); Second Decade (REO Speedwagon); Instinct (Tom Grant); Swing of Delight, Havana Moon and Blues for Salvador (Carlos Santana). Live concerts include Cal Jam 2, US Festival, Moscow Walk for Peace, and Live Aid.
