To my friends...

Stolen Time is my first of several CD projects as a songwriter. I thought you might enjoy the story of each of the songs as they individually represent a moment in time for me... a moment stolen from my eternity... and put down in words.

As you may notice while listening, I take liberties with the timing. In music terms, this is called "rubato." My good friend and fellow composer, Carol Worthey, pointed out to me that the word "rubato" stems from the combination of two other words "rob" and "time," hence "robbed time" or "Stolen Time." Should you find yourself ebbing and flowing with the rhythms of "Stolen Time," enjoy the journey...

Somewhere the Light Shines was written in 1987 as a love song for my boyfriend of that time.

Words and music: Chi-town Sher
Bridge music: Randy Tobin
Vocals: Marji Nelson-Arias
Piano: Randy Tobin

Somewhere... the light shines
Somewhere... the light shines
And I can see your face
I can see your face
And I can see your face
In the moonlight of my love

Two hearts... become one
Two lives... have just begun
In the time of my dreams
The time of my dreams
In the time of my dreams
There you rest amidst the love I feel

(Bridge)
Here we are...
Together
Knowing from the start
We''ll never be untrue

Two as one...
Forever...
And ever...

Somewhere... the light shines
Somewhere... a place we''ll find
Where I can see your face
I can see your face
Where I can see your face
In the moonlight...
In the moonlight of our love...

I Know was composed in 1989 when I found myself in an impossible relationship that never quite began. His name was (and still is) Nick.

Words and music: Chi town Sher
Vocals: Margie Maselli
Piano: Chi-town Sher
Guitars: Greg Kruger

Rain falls... my teardrops again
You hide... your feelings again
I know... that deep down inside
You''re here with me tonight
Why not get it right?

Night falls... in silence I weep
My dreams... into them you seep
I know... what you cannot say
Words locked inside your heart
Waiting to depart...

I want to be your best friend
And lover
Lover
Lover

Been Down so Long was conceived in 1975 after I found myself walking the streets of Hollywood in the rain wearing a black velvet coat and carrying a black silk umbrella.

Words and music: Chi-town sher
Vocals: Caralyn Percy
Piano: Chi-town Sher
Piano fills: Stan Harrison
Guitars: Greg Kruger
Harmonica: Doctor Fun

I''ve been down so long
Start to feelin'' outside
The wind is blowing my life
Like the tide

I''ve been down too long
(ya know it) Wants to make me shout
And Papa says "Chil'' youse learnin''
What it''s all about."

Ever since I can remember
(ya know) Nothin''s quite seemed right
Seems I''m always reachin''
For the night.

(So here I am) Still sittin'' at my piano
(ya know I''m) Tryin'' to forget the pain
Seems everywhere that I turn
Just another name
Yeah, everywhere that I turn
Someone else to blame
Oh... everywhere that I turn
No one else to blame

Yeah, tha''s right, Uh huh...

Dance of the Faerie, the only instrumental on the CD, was written around 1986 and is dedicated to my friend Trish, whose whimsical and spirit of play attitude toward life led me to rename this song for her. Previously it was called "that D minor song."

Music, Piano, Faerie Dust - Chi-town Sher

I Sit Beside You, written in 1987, portrays the deep emotions experienced between myself and my then boyfriend, J.T.

Music and words: Chi-town Sher
Vocals: Margie Maselli
Piano: Chi-town Sher
Guitars: Greg Kruger
Chimes: Chi-town Sher

I sit beside you
Here we are together... together
You lay your hand in mine
You touch so deep inside me....inside me that
I... I have never known
a peace there was like this

We speak so gently
Whispers soft like moonglow... the moon glows
You come to me my love...
I come to you, our love shows... my love knows,
Knows that I, I have never known
a feeling quite like this

I sit beside you...

Where are the Missing Children was co-written in 1988 with my daughter, Tarya, who was actually kidnapped on her first birthday and thankfully reunited with me a couple of years later. Produced here with musical theatre in mind, this song touches deep and is dedicated to any parent who knows what it''s like to lose a child.

Words: Chi-town Sher/Mitchell
Music: Chi-town Sher
Vocals: Caralyn Percy
Guitars: Basil Fung
Bridge vocals: Chi-town Sher
Arranged by Randy Tobin

Where are the missing children?
We''ve been searching all the night
Where are the missing children?
We long to kiss and hold them tight.

And in the morning when I rise
I hear their voices crying out
I see their eyes
Their silent aching doubt.

Where are the missing children?
Have you seen my Billy yet?
Where are the missing children?
Don''t you worry son, don''t fret

And on the evening news I see
Your picture staring out at me
Your smiling face
The pain that won''t erase

Bridge

Won''t someone help me please?
I''ll feed the dog, I''ll never tease
I''m your little girl and I want to come home
I''ve been waiting here soooo long

Where are the missing children?
Oh... we want to have them back
Where are the missing children, mister please
Do you think that''s much to ask?

Stolen Time...
"You are not a thief, you are a giver of life" said of Chi-town Sher by Master composer, Carol Worthey

Dedication:
Grateful acknowledgment to https://www.tradebit.com Hubbard without whose inspiration and teachings I would not be the person I am today.

A special thank you to Jim Warren for allowing me to use his beautiful painting, Fly Away, for the cover of this album. Jim''s art is truly food for the soul.

My gracious thanks to the three amazing women who honored me by singing these compositions with the emotions I originally intended: Marji Nelson-Arias, Margie Maselli and Caralyn Percy; all brilliant artists in their own right, and without whom this CD would not be what it is.

My deepest gratitude to Randy Tobin at Theta Sound Studio in Burbank, California, who picked me up off the ground when this project seemed hopeless and restored life and beauty to it. With his ability to truly understand my vision for these songs, he made it possible for me to complete this body of work.

And lastly, to Pedro and Marie at All Night Long Productions: Thank you for convincing me that I had something worth saying and for pushing me to let my voice inside be heard.

Born and raised in Chicago, I became known as "Chi-town Sher" when I hit the R&B and Blues scene in Southern California many years ago as a bass player. However, the collection of songs on this CD was all written on piano and portrays the emotions I experience when I lay hands to keys.

I''d love to hear from you... please feel free to write me at the e-mail link on the left...

Love,
Chi-town Sher
