Details:
After months of preparation, Memphis musician Chris Love has released his debut album, “On My Way Out,” a rock-soul fusion spawned by Love’s passion for the two genres. His songwriting and compositions featured on the album capture the signature sound of Memphis music and Love’s own twist on contemporary music stylings. Heading a band of seasoned instrumentalists, Love is paving the way for a new generation of Memphis musicians. Hailed as “something that hasn''t been seen in this part of the world for a long time,” “On My Way Out” is soaring off the shelves of many music retailers in Memphis.
Aside from being a singer-songwriter, 22-year-old Love is a guitarist, keyboardist and drummer, not to mention a pivotal part of the Memphis music scene. Since the age of 13, he has played on the city’s renowned Beale Street at clubs and venues including B.B. King’s Blues Club, The Hard Rock Café, the New Daisy Theatre and more.
Though he started performing at venues in his teens, Love has been a musician since he was a child.
“When I was 11, me and my dad would just hang out and watch music videos a lot. I told him I wanted to learn how to play guitar, so he pulled out one of his old guitars one night and started teaching me. I just progressed from there.”
Love got his first break at the age of 16 when he entered a guitar competition at B.B. King’s Beale Street club. The contest was hosted by the Jimi Hendrix Family Foundation, and people from around the world came to the venue to vie for a chance to open for Nole Redding and Mitch Mitchell, members of the legendary music group The Jimi Hendrix Experience at a Los Angeles performance. Love won the contest in Memphis and not only was he rewarded with the opportunity to open for one of his biggest influences, the Family presented to him a ’62 Fender Stratocaster reissue for his abilities.
In 2001, shortly after his “experience,” Love formed the metal band Love and War. He was lead singer and guitarist for the band. Love and War was known for being one of the biggest metal acts in Memphis. In 2002 their single “Hoping for You’’ reached the top 15 on https://www.tradebit.com’s charts. In 2003, Love and War won the Dingo INC. “Battle of the Bands” competition in Memphis. They released the EP “Place of Recovery” the same year. Love and War disbanded in 2004 due to musical differences.
The breakup didn’t slow Love down. He became a solo artist, which gave him the freedom to truly express himself musically and spiritually.
Today, Love’s credibility as a solo artist is consistently growing. Playing hotspots in Southern college towns and around Memphis, Love’s fan base is expanding daily. With his debut album, Love looks to develop a nationwide fanbase while fulfilling his dream of pop stardom.
