ROCK: Folk Rock, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
Portland, Maine-based musician Chip Means writes listenable folk rock that pays tribute to his major influences, most notably the Beatles. In addition to his pop sensibility, Means has a taste for the brooding ballad, as crafted by predecessors Elliott Smith and Mark Kozelek.
In the wake of his role in several bands and collaborative projects, Means created his solo debut, "Come Home." A multi-instrumentalist, he is the only musician present for the album''s 11 original tracks.
Recorded at home employing barebones techniques, "Come Home" moves between the catchy ("Dossier", "Camping In Your Heart") and the forlorn ("You''ve Never Been Thrown Away", "Song of Mine"). The album also features the occasional break from such compositions, as its minimalist title track allows the instruments to repeat the titular request.
A native of Essex, Massachusetts and former resident of Portland, Oregon, Means attended Bates College and works as a freelance writer. The songs on Come Home were written in both Portlands and in Galway, Ireland.
