Details:
Jon began his musical career on the Midwest Coffeehouse Circuit in 1971. Through a succession of “day jobs” he began to write in the 80’s, and returned to the stage at Boston folk venues in 1993. Jon released his first album, “One More Tomorrow,” in 1995. He is updating and re-recording that work, and it will soon to be up on CD Baby as well. Since moving to Seattle in 1999, Jon has been working on “War Prayer,” and trying very hard to develop the ability to multi-task.

Jon writes three kinds of songs – Humourous tunes that look a little sideways at the things we do every day; political tunes (decidedly progressive); and introspective. He has the ability to change the way people think. His smart and heartfelt lyrics explore themes ranging from the heartache of fading love and the long reach of our memories, to the bigger issues facing us all.

Just as Mark Twain''s essay, “The War Prayer,” was in 1904, the title track is a warning about the dangers of believing you own the “truth,” and clinging to it blindly. Like Twain’s essay, it sounds a warning about the consequences of living with a closed mind.

“Atlas” was written for Jermaine Goffigan, a 9 year-old Boston boy killed in gang crossfire in 1994.

The breezy guitar on “Aging Hippie''s Lament” belies the sharp satirical look at mass submission to a skewed American dream, while “Radio Man” offers a biting commentary on the hypocrisy of talk radio and the politics of division.

The imagery in “Northeast Corridor,” “Thoughts from a Bench in Monterrey,” are all about the cycles of change, while “Maybe My Inspiration,” “After Fireflies,” “If I Could Play the Blues,” and “Stories of the Road” capture the challenge of putting feelings into words, and finding the courage to be true.

And “A Friend Like You” celebrates the best we can give each other.
