In 1969, James Bell, lead vocalist of the Highlighters Band, wrote and recorded “The Funky 16 Corners“. It quickly claimed the #1 spot and started a new dance craze. In 2001 it was released again by two record labels and claimed the #1 spot on the world “FUNK” charts for 18 weeks. Today the original version is rated one of the best and most sought after funk 45 s in world. Bidding on mint condition 45s of “Funky 16 Corners” starts at $1500.00 each. Two other recordings written and recorded by Bell in 1969, “Amazing Love” and “The Love of My Girl”, are also collectors items selling for $500.00 and up each. This string of hits establishes Bell as a good writer.

James Bell has written and recorded all of the thirteen songs selected for this CD, “Message to the World”. Consider by many as a natural lyricist, Bell''s versatility in music genres has created one of the best albums of today. Combining Jazz, Ballads, Pop, Blues and Rhythm &Blues, Bell has created an exceptional album in which every song is good. No album fillers here!!

Each selection will grab and hold your attention throughout the entire CD. For instance: The Title cut, “Message to the World” is cast in a Bosa Nova style. Coining phrases like “…No matter the color of your skin -You are still my brother…”, and, “…If you cut your hand or I cut my hand the blood we bleed is red!!!…” James truly offers a Message to the world. The ballad “You Light my Fire”, is a masterpiece, showcaseing Bell''s deep & ever so Soulful Voice. “Good Morning Blues” takes Bell back to his Mississippi roots where he was born and lived until age 11. “Money” a fantasy mind trip about “What if I Had Money”,soulfully done in a style simular to the great Lou Rawls. “ Somethin Bout My Baby” is a happy sing-along tune which you will find yourself humming and singing the chorus all day even while you work."Love Blooms in Spring", another beautiful ballad, with the message," Trees and flowers bloom in spring so why shouldn''t Love? Love does bloom in spring but spring being the condition of one''s heart rather than the season of the year. And the list goes on and on with each song taking a different approach to life whether real or fictional. This CD is a must for your collection. You will play it again & again & again. Please welcome -James Bell''s “ MESSAGE TO THE WORLD”
