Toronto, Ont… On Tuesday, April 11, 2006, Toronto actor, songwriter and record promoter James Collins releases his independently produced CD. Titled The Messenger, Collins debut CD will be available in Canada at record stores and retail outlets, including HMV, Chapters and Indigo, CD Plus, Pure Tracks and for purchasing and downloading on iTunes.

The Messenger is a collection of 13 pop songs, 10 news songs written and produced by Collins alone or with guest musicians and songwriters, plus three cover versions of songs that inspired him by other musicians. These are: Everybody’s Gotta Learn Sometime, written by James Warren and recorded by The Korgis; God’s Great Banana Skin, written and recorded by Chris Rea and Sandra, co-written by Barry Manilow and Enoch Anderson and recorded by Barry Manilow. Five of the original songs on the CD are already receiving national airplay on radio stations and on several satellite music stations as well as climbing Canadian music charts. They are: Since Tina Moved In, Fly, Good Enough (To Love), Do You Mind If We Talk About Bill?, and Missing You At Christmas (That’s All).

Oshawa born Collins has written and co-written over 100 original pop songs and has had more than 60 songs recorded or covered by other artists. He has over 20 National Top 40 Canadian hits to his credit, most of them promoted solely by him. These songs include: Tell Me You Love Me, recorded by Carol Medina; The Ultimate Love Song performed by Gavin Hope; It’s Just My Luck (V.I.P.) and It’s Christmas (Jon Peter Lewis, American Idol finalist, season three).

His success as a singer and songwriter has come from turning personal experiences into pop songs that have caught the attention of pop artists, radio stations’ music directors and radio listeners across Canada. For The Messenger, Collins has composed, recorded and produced songs about relationships and notable topics including suicide, crystal meth addiction and the sex change of a former Canadian pop artist.
