Details:
James first crawled onto stage when he was three and thought he would follow in his father''s (character actor Johnny Haymer "Mash, "Annie Hall") footsteps. But on Feb. 7, 1964 when he saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life...
In the seventies, James co-founded "Silverspoon" working with Mal Evans, producer of the band "Badfinger" not to mention former road manager for the Beatles!
Silverspoon was featured on the "Helter Skelter" soundtrack, and played on Keith Moon''s solo album titled, "Two Sides of the Moon".
Silverspoon was a unique mix of LA area guys most of which had famous parents. Miguel Ferrer - Drums (son of Jose Ferrer and Rosemary Clooney, currently starring in the TV show Crossing Jordan). Joey Hamilton stepson of Carol Burnett on lead Vocals, Steven Gries son of Film Producer, Tom Gries, The highly talented keyboard man Blair Aaronson and Philadelphian rocker, Mike Kennedy on lead guitar.
After Silverspoon broke up in the late seventies, James joined the local LA group "The Knack" as a replacement keyboardist. Lead singer, Doug Fieger was a friend and also a previous member of Silverspoon. Although James did not play on any of the Knack albums he did play the first few gigs with the band but left due to personal differences.
In 1981 he and Blair Aaronson formed "Two Guys from Van Nuys", a Dylanesque duo who were regulars at the Bla Bla Cafe in Studio City for a few years. Soon Techno- rock took over the music scene and the Two Guys changed their style recording with the late Curt Boectcher some demos. This lead to Mike Love (Beach Boys) recording a Haymer-Aaronson tune called "Running Around the World". You can find this gem on Mike''s solo effort called "Looking Back with Love".
In the mid-eighties the "Two Guys" broke up amicably and James went solo again. He teamed up with former Silverspoon member, Chas Sandford (writer of "Missing You" and "What Kind of Man") and wrote songs for various artists such as Maria Vidal and Mike Campbell of "The Heartbreakers".
In 1988 he met his wife to be, Donna, a redheaded Scottish lass and they got married in Scotland in 1990. After the Northridge quake in 1994, James Donna and their two-year-old son, Jonathan packed up the Jeep and moved to Nashville. Now James, Donna and their three sons (Jonathan 13, Daniel 8 and Morgan 5) live in a quiet town 30 miles south of Nashville known as Thompson Station. Here James writes and records his albums, writes his screenplays and plays a lot of golf on his 130 yard par three hole in his back yard.
James'' latest Cd "Field Recordings" has been getting some rave reviews. Eddie Russell from WCNET radio says, "The whole album holds together with staggering magnitude". Mike Penard from ISA radio in France is quoted as saying, "I have a high respect for artists like you who give the listeners the feeling that the artist''s goal is the search of quality". Trevor Hyland from The Fresh FM in Bendigo, Australia says "The CD captivated me". Theo Oldenburg from Radio Winschoten writes, "I don''t compare artists too often with Bob Dylan, but listening to "Field Recordings" is like listening to a good Dylan record. Well done!"
But why don''t you judge for yourself!
