In just a year and a half since her first CD was released ("Clear", 2003), Wyers'' music is quickly rising in the national folk/pop community. Songs from "Clear" earned finalist awards and invitations to perform at 6 national songwriting competitions that summer, including Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Kerrville Folk Festival, Rocky Mt. Folks Festival, and more. Invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, a few months later, Wyers played a show there on the first night of her first tour.
In performance, Juliet is charismatic and fills the stage with her smart and sweet, funny and chatty persona. Subtly literate, her songs ring with melodies that reflect the words'' meanings and hop with rhythmic life -- raised on soul music/funk, 1960''s folk, and Broadway musicals, what would you expect? Wyers winds science and spirit together in pieces about honeybees, subliming (in chemistry, going directly from solid to gas), and a metal detector man, then puts her guitar down to breathe and belt out a flirtatious, silly cover song, or lead a sing-a-long that came in a dream. Wyers grew up in the Pacific Northwest, in a log house in the forest and an Old Portland home, with activist parents who heated with wood, baked bread weekly and kept a big garden. She was a highly practiced walkman-singer before she risked solo performance.
