His formative musical education began in the Pentecostal Church. As he got older, this shy, introverted child learned to appreciate Soul, Jazz, and Funk, mimicking his new found companions: Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Sly Stone, George Clinton, the instigators who would ''parent'' him during solitude whilst moulding and developing his unique style. As an independent artist JN has worked or collaborated with: James Taylor Quartet, Elisha Laverne, Mentor, Pepper Head, Maxi Priest, Nii Ayikwei Parkes, Opaz, Rishi Rich, The Pod, Veronica and David Yorath. His music is consistent. JN''s vocal performance is varied and soothing to the soul. He has a distinctive tone; like Raphael Saadiq once you hear it, you''ll recognize it on any featured vocals. He is not just a lyricist; he is a poet. His use and juxtaposition of words is both strange and refreshing. I''ll liken him to one of the great poets Thomas Hardy.
