Details:
Jim and Jody have been a singing, song-writing duo for more than twenty years. They met in college when he joined the Chapel music group that Jody was leading. Their songs cover a wide range of themes in a wide range of styles-lullabies, love songs, friends, travels, introspective reflections cleverly integrated into folk, light rock, country, or easy listening genres.

But why so diverse? Why so scattered? Why not one direction? How can you hope to attract and hold an audience if you cannot be simply and easily categorized into one convenient genre?

"When the Muse steps into my consciousness and whispers the wordless wonting of the universe, I am compelled to articulate the message, which words alone cannot adequately express. The music, the rhythm, the mood are all essential to the completeness of the transcendent truth that has found its medium here in me at this point in time."

"What are you talking about?" counters Jody. "Why don''t you just say you''ve had almost no musical training, and you play guitar as much as you can because you never outgrew your adolescent desire to be a rock star."

I think Jody says it best.

Old Caroleen Road is their first official release. In true indie fashion, they have been burning one-off CDs since the advent of the computer-based home recording studio. But they decided it was time to try a more organized approach. Nonetheless, the helter-skelter selection of songs clearly speaks to that love of diversity and freedom from borders.

For instance, the title track is a country tune referring to a highway in the Carolinas, while These Days is a mellow swing ballad written for the good friends they have met in Germany, who eventually have to return home to the States. Sippin'' on Midnight is a jazzy instrumental that conjures up images of the two of them sitting on their terrace overlooking the Frankfurt cityscape, sipping red wine as the summer moon meanders across the star-speckled sky. And Crocodile is a twelve-bar blues metaphor about the reality of Jim''s real job. Jim has what he refers to as a "real job" with an American firm that has sent him and his family over there for a three year assignment. "Everything about it is very real," says Jim. "It''s real hard, real fun, real different. . . really."

The CD jacket is different, too. It is a photo of a 500 year-old house located in a little German town where Jim and Jody currently reside with their four children. The other panel is a photo in an Austrian ski-town called Kitzbuehl. "It''s beautiful here in Europe," says Jody. "We traveled a lot, sang our songs at pubs, parties and special events. And this CD is like a photo album for us. It reminds us of all the good times and all the good things in life."

But without getting too philosophical, metaphysical, or just plain mushy, Jim and Jody have a fun mix of great tunes. "Hope you enjoy our music. We have more we''d like to share with you. And remember, if it seems real to you, it is."

What is he talking about. . .
