The stage is looking a lot emptier these days to NYC singer/songwriter Jeremy Elijah. He''s used to quintets, sextets, and pretty much any other ''tet'' you can dream up. But these days, Jeremy has much more room to roam on the stages he owns nightly - augmented only by a rhythm section comprised of his production team, John Biscuti (Bass/Keyboards) and Mike Parascandola (Percussion). The sparse lineup is quite a departure from past JE projects, but it''s only fitting - his new music is harmonically simple, mostly comprised of breezy acoustic guitar strums, with only the occasional foray into overdrive. Things get complex only when JE raises his voice. Whether he''s making his "great escape" or lamenting about his darling - the one that "needed a minute to breathe" and didn''t return until winter - things always seem to be teetering between heartbreak and heartwarming in JE-land. He''s often ambiguous - we don''t know whether to raise our glass or to drown our sorrows - but it''s that sense of wonderment that truly earns JE his crown as "The Prince of Stapleton." While he gives credit to "a lot of Elliot Smith at a young age" as the spark behind his current solo efforts, he draws much lyrical inspiration from all the noteworthy indie and folk artists of whom he''s ever come within ears-length. But JE is no copycat. He is quickly establishing himself throughout the five boroughs as a fresh, raw talent. As a performer, JE''s shows manage to walk that tightrope again - somewhere between reserved and raucous - and his intimacy the audience is second to none. Oh, and the answer is "boxer briefs", but you should come see his show regardless - you can own the privilege of being one of the many who know the answer to the question burning on the mind of every person in the audience.
