Details:
Cesar Villalobos, best known as the Founder of INCA SON, Music & Dance of the Andes, was born in Ascope, Peru. Recognized as one of the world''s best world music groups, INCA SON continues to flourish, expanding its fan base with each new release.

A self-taught musician and dancer who performed, while in Peru, with the acclaimed troupe "Matices Peruanos," Villalobos came to the United States in 1985, and formed INCA SON four years later. Since then, the band has earned widespread recognition in concert halls, schools, universities, and festivals, not only in this country but also in Canada, Europe and Latin America. Villalobos has performed, with INCA SON, at the White House, the United Nations, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Boston''s Symphony Hall, and with Chicago''s Grant Park Orchestra, to name just a few outstanding venues. In 1995, the National Press of Peru bestowed the honorary title of "Cultural Ambassador of Peru" on Villalobos for his direction of INCA SON, which not only introduces audiences to the music and dance of the Andes, but to its rich and fascinating culture dating back to the time of the Inca peoples. As proud bearers of this Inca heritage, Villalobos and his musicians and dancers wear the colorful costumes of their Precolumbian forebears. They also play handmade instruments - panpipes, percussion and stringed instruments - whose melodies can be haunting and plaintive, or so buoyant the listener finds him or herself clapping or dancing in time to the music.

In addition to directing Inca Son, Villalobos is responsible for its distinctive sounds. A talented lyricist and composer, Villalobos - who performs both with the group and as a soloist - has written and recorded most of the band''s most beautiful songs contained on their ten CD''s. The composer deftly weaves into many of the tunes the sounds of nature - storms, rain, galloping horses, birds - "creating," in the words of one contemporary Boston music critic, "the feeling of journeying high in the Andes." In one of his latest compositions, "Andean Village," Villalobos imagines himself returning, after so many years, to his homeland: "I never left, I was always here," he sings. To understand the meaning of this phrase, listen to the music of this legendary world music group, and journey with him.
