War Nevermore – The Musical
This is a recording of the songs from a musical I wrote about romance in the time of war. Featuring the endearing voices of Bryan Dyer and Tina Malia as a young newlywed couple separated by the ravages of war. By embracing the internal contradictions inherent in the complexities of war, I’ve endeavored to portray the spectrum of human experience and emotion as well as the unintended consequences of organized murder. The young couple is bombarded with a plethora of humorous propaganda at a political rally featuring the biting satire from a champion of progressive causes, Y.B. Dupe’d. In addition to the persuasive pro-peace message, we are also “treated” to the hilarious, albeit circuitous, rationalizing and justifying of the immensely powerful oil lobby. Beyond the confusing polemics, is the heart of the story and what it really means to examine the tragic results and long-term sociological effects when cavalier, short-sighted war-monger’s direct foreign policy. This musical is an expose’ of divergent opinions expressed as humorous diatribes from two non-negotiable sides. War Nevermore also examines the social climate necessary to instigate such dramatic conflict. But most of all, it is an endearing love story that looks intimately at the true costs of war within relationship. It is my hope that this modern musical fable can remind the listeners of the urgent necessity of always allowing love to triumph over war, certainly in the geo-political arena and, even more importantly, in our daily lives.
