Details:
"I wrote "Allegheny Is Calling Me" when I heard about the threat to its natural beauty by the oil and gas drilling operations", says Jeanette Arsenault. "Hundreds of miles of roads are being cut into the heart of the wilderness, drilling rigs installed, compressors shatter the silence, the odor of natural gas permeates the forest and recreation lands.

“Much has been said about our need of new energy sources but we also need to strike a balance so as not to totally destroy the natural environment. The Allegheny Forest is the water source of Pittsburgh and many communities in the Ohio Valley", she continues. She wanted to write a love song to the forest to stir up the hearts of the people on both sides of the issue.

"I''m sure that the oil drillers & workers love their homeland too. They love the sight of an eight-point buck in the autumn-coloured woods, stepping across a rushing, rocky mountain stream, and hearing the drumming of grouse in the spring.

“I just wanted to write a song to remind them of that", she adds.

Arsenault incorporates many of the iconic Allegheny Forest names like Tracy Ridge, Heart’s Content and “those rolling hills” of western Pennsylvania. She adds her own iconic phrases like “this land of the forest glorious” and gives new meaning to patriotic phrases like “This land is your land”. Background vocals by thrush and veery birdsong, along with soothing fiddle interludes add to the feel of the North Country.

This recording is masterfully done with Arsenault’s own voice singing a harmonic round that you wish would go on forever. The independent artist makes her home in rural Prince Edward County, Ontario and works with an Ottawa, Canada studio, Oxford Productions.

Jeanette Arsenault comes from a musical Acadian family and is fully bilingual, French and English. She will be releasing her 6th CD album entitled “I Wish I Had Wings" by Christmas 2010. She uses her songwriting and singing to uplift spirits and create awareness for important social and environmental issues including mental illness, Third World poverty, and human rights.

Her music has taken her across Canada as well as to 2 Olympic Games: Salt Lake City, Utah in 2002 and Athens Greece 2004. In June 2011, she has been invited to sing in Helsinki, Finland at an International women''s conference where she will perform her original song, "Women of the World" in four languages: English, French, Spanish & Italian.
