Details:

It has been really good fun recording the album, we have worked with Ben Castle on saxophone (kulashaker, Brand New Heavies, Carleen Anderson) and Gail Ann Dorsey on Bass (David Bowie, Gwen Stefani). It was very important to me that I did as much as I could. Some of my roles have been recording engineer, Singer, Backing Singer, Bassist, Drummer, Guitarist, Pianist, arranger, commposer, executive producer and mastering engineer. I soon realised that I needed some other flavours so got some session guys in to put parts down but mostly what you hear is just me.

The inspiration behind the album came as I was listening to the playback of the original multitrack recordings of David Bowie''s Space Oddity. I realised that the simply recorded drums and bass had an astounding energy, especialy at the end of the song when they go into a freeform jazz freakout. It even gets a resounding, "Bloody nice take - Really nice" from David Bowie at the end of it. We tried to use this as a sample but the permission was not granted by David for the release. I was chuffed that they even considered it.

I remember calling my friend Tony Monk and saying, "all we need is Bowies drums and bass and we are half way there"

Well we certainly got his Bassist Gail to play on Friday Night. I approached her manager and asked about session fees and was bowled over when she agreed to do it. Gails approach to bass playing is nothing less than perfectionist. I soon realised that after Ben Castle had laid some interstellar sax playing on this track, that my mediocre drumming would not suffice. So I called Troy Miller (Amy Winehouse) to see if he could spare anytime to record me some drums to match the bass and sax. due to his immense schedule we couldn''t get the times sorted out to coincide. But I look forward to working with Troy soon.

Ben Castle has had immense success and has worked with almost everyone in the music business. He used to teach my sister Sian saxophone and play in our church band with the rest of his family. Without a doubt he is the most fun guy in the business and we agreed that his session fee would be "per note played" this is why he plays so many notes.

We selected Soapy Jones (theater of hate) for punk guitar as we had worked with him before when we tracked Romel. Soapy has been around the music block so many times and I could listen to him for ages either playing a new riff he has found or chatting about who he has worked with over the years.
