High Fight Five is a new band with roots in Chicago: Traia Thiel, lead vocals; Zachary Berglind, bass; Liam Burns, lead guitar; Jacob Lill, drums; David Rodgers, rhythm guitar. We all met while attending Chicago''s Whitney Young High School.
High Fight Five was formed in the summer of 2010. What happened was that in mid-May, Traia''s father offered to invest in a professional recording by Traia''s then-band. He did not know that right then, the band was breaking up. Traia moved fast, though, and before school was out she had recruited a new band: Dave, Liam, Zack, and a drummer. Some of us had plans to go away to college, so we had a strict deadline – the EP had to be recorded by the middle of August. We got to work. After several stressful and difficult weeks of rehearsal, interrupted by summer jobs, soccer tournaments and family vacations, we lost our drummer. Fortunately, Jake was available and willing to put in the hard work needed to catch up. High Fight Five survived. We made it to the studio just in time, and the result is in your hands. We''re pleased and proud of Bronze God Status and are pretty sure you''ll like it.
Our thanks to Traia''s father, Stuart Thiel, who produced the album and acted as our manager of sorts, and to Traia''s mother, Meigan Cameron, who provided the practice space and excellent food. Traia''s sister, Serena Thiel, contributed the cover concept, art and photography. Of course, Dave''s, Jake''s, Liam''s and Zack''s parents and siblings provided more than their share of moral support. Thanks also to Jeff Peek, music teacher at Whitney Young, and to Jeff Oliver of Riverbend Studio, a sound recording guy with a special high tolerance for teenage musicians who have never done anything like this before.
