Details:
2009 saw Lionel Lee''s Curse (aka Matt E Baird) pen and record his latest full length offering: ‘Mysteries of the heart; Vagaries of the mind’. It is also the debut album under his moniker Lionel Lee’s Curse. The title expresses that intangible nature of things that involve matters of the heart and the mind; no certainty to feelings or an exactness to thought.

The Album was recorded at Pressed Tin Studio over a twelve month period in small bits around other projects and when time and players were available. Produced by Matt E Baird and mixed by Roger Bergodaz, at Tender Trap Studios, Melbourne. Mastered by the “master’ David Briggs, The Production Workshop, Melbourne.

PRESS REVIEWS:
“Mysteries of the heart; Vagaries of the mind’ is far from a debut recording from Matt E Baird but it is the first under his moniker Lionel Lee’s Curse. And my, is it a good’un. Matt E Baird really knows what he is doing, following in the tradition of Neil Young, Lee Hazelwood, America and Australia''s Paul Kelly. I should emphasise that I reference all these other bands not because I think Lionel Lee’s Curse is unoriginal, but because I feel “Mysteries of the heart; Vagaries of the mind approaches the musical know-how and integrity that these bands have been credited for. This album isn’t under my skin just yet, but maybe it could be. Suffice to say Lionel Lee’s Curse (aka Matt E Baird) makes pretty good bloody music in my book”. - Inpress Mag, Melbourne.

"Serious stuff; meaning skillful, professional, timeless folk-pop; energetic without being flashy. Matt E Baird is a comfortable singer with a good ear for a tune with al aid-back groove." -The Age EG, Melbourne

"From an opening number that sounds like your friends’ band just dropped by for an instant party-at-your-place, through dusty prairie trails, broken hearts, suicide and soul searching, Mysteries Of The Heart: Vagaries Of The Mind is an engaging collection of new material from Melbourne musician Matt E Baird (aka Lionel Lee’s Curse) - Forte Magazine, Melbourne. ''PICK'' of the week album.

“The bringing together of 60’s & 70’s folk rock melodies, country musings and gothic tales of hardship and wrong do’n” - unknown.
