''Allah di panah'' is the third single from Amar Singh, a singer-songwriter who transcends stereotype. Amar respects no boundaries, borders or neat little pigeon holes, intent on following his heart and carving out his own niche. Amar followed up his debut single ''Dil Jaan'' with ''Kismet'' with his band ''Shantitown''. With ''Allah di panah'' he continues to blaze a trail blending his unique lyrics and melodic vibe with a contemporary western sound that just demands to be heard.
Amar is a versatile singer equally at home singing in Hindi or Punjabi. His second release ‘Kismet’ was in Hindi and with his latest offering ‘ Allah di Panah’ he gives us a taste of his Punjabi vocals. The video promoting the single was partly filmed on a rooftop where Raj the drummer created a bit of bit of a storm and nearly got arrested for disturbing the peace!
The song title roughly translates as ‘ Gods shelter’ and like all of Amar’s lyrics carries a deep personal significance and meaning. The song starts of with a sufi inspired lament and then kicks off into a driving drum, base , synth and guitar laden rhythm. The song is about moving on in life without bitterness and rancour, with forgiveness and love in your heart.
Amar Singh along with his band Shantitown are on a mission to bring back the organic live band sound to the Brit-Asian music scene and the video to the song with its stark, grainy monochrome look showcases the live feel that Amar is trying to bring to the scene. In this age of hyperbole and wall to wall media saturation an artist has to stand tall to get noticed. With ‘Allah di panah’ there is no doubt that Amar is out to make his mark on the scene.
