DANIEL FERREIRA
Daniel Ferreira, an undergraduate student of the Music Department majoring in guitar has returned after a busy summer in Brazil, where he recently released his first CD titled “Da Alma de Quem Andeja” (“Of the Nomad’s Soul”). The CD was the result of a grant from the City of Caxias do Sul and features “Gaucho native music.”
Daniel was responsible for all the compositions, vocals, and also played guitar on the CD. The production and the arrangements were made in collaboration with pianist Eder Bergoza.
The CD represents a step forward to the Gaucho heritage, as Daniel made innovations in the instrumentation by including strings, brass, and even effects such as whistling, which differs from the traditional approach.
Contrary to the main trend of Gaucho musicians, who address specific subjects related to the country life and the hard work on the fields, Daniel purposefully expanded the themes of the lyrics to foster the interest of a new audience of Gaucho music.
Daniel has won more than fifty competitions of Gaucho music and has been invited on several occasions to adjudicate on others. Daniel is a sophomore student of guitar at Marshall, where he studies with Mr. Julio Alves. More information about Daniel and his CD can be found at
