''On this really groovy release Benny B the Bathtub Pirate and Mr. Diggins venture off into the land of lo-fi beats and breaks with a backpack full of obscure but lush samples. On this journey they are accompanied by Simon Amon, and along the way they meet up with Foreign Beggars, Pseudo Slang, Nate Dizney on the bass, Jules de la Courgette on the keys and Eduard Ninck Blok on the trumpet. Together they pay homage to both the old and the new side of lo-fi sampled beats.
Throughout the whole 60 minutes of Wheels on Trees, the overall feel is that it’s just ‘done’. You’ve got extensive but subtle drum programming, sweet vocalism and dope raps. Even the couple of added synths on some tracks sound like they’re recorded from old records. There’s breaks and boom-bap drums, but they’re all easygoing and laced with jazzy piano hits, guitar licks, organs that’ll give you goosebumps and brazen horns. To me, it has the atmosphere of Bibio combined with the truthful feeling of Cee-Lo’s singing, and that on top of Malcom Kipe drums.''
