Details:
Harris started his career on piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of five. Finishing at the age of thirteen, after eight years of studying the theory and technique of classical piano, Harris then enrolled in trumpet and voice lessons for four years. At the age of eighteen, he was picked up as a keyboard player for Sarah Contuck and Artistic Freedom – an improv style jazz-rock band based in Halifax. During his time with AF, he fell in love with the excitement and freedom of playing with a small group of like-minded musicians and with playing in front of live audiences. When this came to an end, Harris put the cover on his keys for a brief time to focus on sound engineering and DJ-ing. Working with DJ SteveMac and FratBoy Productions, Harris immersed himself in the burgeoning techno scene of the early-mid 90s. It was during this time that he also started playing and writing his own music on guitar. The songs that emerged were eclectic in context and personal in content – an attempt at combining a diverse range of styles and influences into music that was free-spirited and unique. Following a brief stint in the band Short Term Memory, Harris was finally ready to dedicate himself to the pursuit of his own musical vision.

Getting involved in many singer/songwriter circles, showcases and live broadcast festivals throughout Canada, Harris continued to hone his craft. At the same time, he wrote and recorded the songs for his first EP titled “Harris”. Immediately following this EP release, while continuing to make a variety of highly recognized industry connections, he started work on a full-length album. The result of a year’s work, the nationally distributed album “Life From Hour To Hour” is the culmination of all the experiences and adventures that have led him to this point. The album features his multi-instrumental ability (he plays drums, bass, guitar, keys, harmonica, percussion, and even a little flute), his songwriting, and his co-producing talents and is the truest representation to date of his individual style. Songs from the record have made it into rotation on commercial and campus stations across Canada. The track “Let Me Breathe’ was featured in the soundtrack for the independent movie “The Waking Dead” screened at last year’s Tidal Wave Film Festival. The song “Strong Hearted Woman” was included on a compilation album featuring East Coast artists such as Jimmy Swift Band, Hot Toddy, and Grand Theft Bus.
