MP3 George Hetherington - Rhythm Of The Soul
Country and Blues
11 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Country Blues, EASY LISTENING: Mature
I left school at 15 during my first and only year at college. I was a bit of a dreamer when it came to nurturing any scholarly attributes that may have lurked inside my head. To cut to the chase, I worked as knife-hand in the freezing works and tried my hand at shearing a few of the many woolly beasts New Zealand is known so fondly for. I’ve done the long-haul bit with truck and trailer, cut scrub with a slasher and nursed blisters on blisters.
I presently own a shuttle-taxi, George’s Shuttle Services Ltd, working mainly from Wellington Airport.
A railway shunting accident laid me up with a head injury in 1971. Unable to do much, because of the double vision, I picked up a pen and wrote hundreds of poems. Then I picked up my first guitar and taught myself the basics with some lessons to brush up on technique. The result is a heap of songs, 11 of which are on this my very first album, RHYTHM OF THE SOUL.
My mother always said I should make a proper recording and get my stuff done professionally so more people could hear it.
It’s only because she died and left me an inheritance that I was able to fulfill her wishes.
My Mum gave me every encouragement and I have dedicated this album to her and also my brother John who died tragically at 15 on a motorbike when I was 16.
I am married and my youngest daughter, Cherie co-wrote YOU TELL ME AND I TELL YOU at about age eight.
During the last 25 years or so I have written some 50 songs, written a full length play titled: BY THE SHORT AND CURLIES, which was runner up in the 1986 Minolta Awards here in New Zealand, written a fictional drama novel manuscript of some 180,000 words titled: A PIT OF EMBERS, and also the adapted version as a screenplay.
Both, the novel and the screenplay are registered with the New Zealand Writers’ Guild, and I am presently seeking (world wide) a publisher for the novel and a producer for the screenplay.
My next biggest goal is to see my novel on the shelves of book shops and the screenplay up on the big screen in movie houses all around the world.
So there you have it.
I hope you enjoy RHYTHM OF THE SOUL.
