Combine serious funk jams with a healthy hit of pro-hemp awareness and you have Herbal Nation. Founded in 1995 by drummer/producer ''Stumpy'' and made up of killer players from throughout the Northeast U.S., Herbal Nation celebrated the release of its first full length
studio cd "herbal nation", on 421records in November by headlining two nights at the 2004 High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. The cd features special guest performances by Jeff Watkins, saxophonist for the Godfather of Soul himself, Mr. James Brown, and has 3 new versions of their anthem ''We Love the Herb'', which was featured in the
December 2004 issue of High Times Magazine.
Herbal Nation has appeared with artists such as Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, Cypress Hill, De La Soul, Fred Wesley, Toots and the Maytals, and their single "We Love the Herb " has been getting significant airplay on
college and commercial radio throughout the Northeast. In 2002 they made their first appearence at the High Times Cannabis Cup,and in 2003 they headlined the MassCann/NORML WBCN Freedom Festival in front of 40,000 people on the Boston Common. They were joined by Jeff Watkins on saxophone as they rang in 2005 by bringing their jams to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to open for George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic at the club ''Revolution'' for a Super Funk New Year''s Eve show.
