Express is a soulful, funky jazz/R&B quintet, which will liven up any party or occasion. Featuring 5 of the hottest players from both L.A. and Orange Counties, Express features the vintage sounds of saxophone and guitar with a modern jazz/R&B flair. This lively group features the original compositions of Ed Peffer and Ron Kobayashi, as well as R&B classics and mainstream jazz. In November they recorded their first promo-CD, which was released in February of 2001, "Ed Peffer and Express".
Express has been entertaining audiences for years, and can provide a great ambience of contemporary and traditional jazz, mixed in with original compositions. They have performed for functions for the Anaheim White House, Anaheim Convention Center, the PYHA Wine and Jazz Festival, Irvine Spectrum Center, San Diego State University, California State University at Los Angeles, UCLA, Irvine Valley College, MCI, and the National Fasteners Association, as well as for several private parties. Ed Peffer is a professional saxophonist, clarinetist, flautist, composer, and maintains a busy schedule performing for parties, clubs, and weddings, plus teaching the jazz ensemble, combos, and jazz improvisation at Irvine Valley College.
Kevin Holmes is a professional guitarist, and performs regularly with Saturday Night Bath, Chile Verde, and the Peffer-Holmes Duo. Ron Kobayashi is a well-known pianist and composer in Orange County, and performs regularly with his trio at Steamer''s Café in Fullerton, Birraporetti''s in Costa Mesa, and Oyster''s In Newport Beach. Ron has 3 CD releases with his Trio, and they include "The Ron Kobayashi Trio," "Exotic Places", and "No Preservatives". Completing the group are bassist Matt Overholser and drummer Mike Alarcon, who both have extensive performing credits in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
