The Bruce Eskovitz Jazz Orchestra (BEJO) features world-renowned jazz masters. Led by veteran saxophonist and composer Dr. Bruce Eskovitz, the Bruce Eskovitz Jazz Orchestra combines the power and soul of a big band with the agility of a small ensemble, producing music that is as exciting as it is beautiful. Variety is at the center of the band’s repertoire with original compositions and arrangements that cover the territory from Hard Bop to funk, and everything in between.
An active band that regularly tours the jazz scene in LA and beyond, this group has some impressive credentials! 1) Nightmoves Bruce Eskovitz
Our opener is in a mambo styled beat and will feature Bruce on tenor and Marco maneuvering deftly around the bands’ off-beat accents.
2) Regions B. E.
This piece explores the changing nature of Jazz with irregular structure and harmony.
Ernie Watts and Bill Churchville work out on this one.
3) Twilight Moon B. E.
This piece invokes the feeling of a dream sequence with its subtle melody and haunting voicings. Shelly Berg and Bruce are featured.
4) Somalia B. E.
African rhythms and an exotic melody frame this exciting piece as Jacques Voyemont,
Lee Thornburg and Dave Tull dance in front of the fire.
5) All For Love B. E.
This ballad explores several of the feelings associated with loving. Bill and Larry share the spotlight.
6) Little Sunflower Freddie Hubbard arr by Bruce Eskovitz
This great jazz standard has been re-set with a hip-hop groove with Ernie and Bruce playing the opening theme on bass clarinet and flute. After hot solos by Dino and Bruce and a burning shout chorus the original dark theme is restated with a dream-like quality.
7) No Fear B. E.
Rip-roaring energy as Ernie and Bruce chase each other in this barn burner.
8) Peace for Stan B.E.
This ballad tune was written for and dedicated to tenor saxophone great Stan Getz and was compositionally constructed along the lines of the “Focus Suite”. It features rich harmonies in the ensemble and Bruce soloing freely throughout.
9) Mob Scene B. E.
The tittle says it all and the band is on fire throughout. It features Bruce and Dan and the entire ensemble in some very “screemingly” difficult sections. This one starts hot and blazes as the closer of the first CD by BEJO.

Band Bio Information
Bruce Eskovitz, Tenor and Soprano Saxophone, and Flute, is the founder and main composer for BEJO, whose original concept was to have a band with power and maturity that could play a variety of jazz styles. His career has developed as an instrumentalist, a composer, and an educator. His varied performance credentials include Doc Severinsen, Jane Monheit, Joe Cocker, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, and many others. He founded the award- winning jazz program at The Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences and is currently the Director of Jazz Ensembles at the USC Thornton School of Music Jazz Studies Department.
Ernie Watts, Alto Saxophone, Flute, and Bass Clarinet, has one of the most distinguished careers in the modern jazz and pop world. He has literally played and recorded with everyone form Cannonball Adderley and Quincy Jones to pop stars like Whitney Houston, Barbra Striesand and The Rolling Stones. After 20 years as a top flight studio musician Ernie has spent the last several years as a jazz artist producing four superb CD’s under his own name with world-class musicians.
Larry Williams, Trumpet and Flugelhorn, has become one of the most sought after trumpet players on the LA scene since his arrival from Orlando, Florida three years ago. Larry plays most of the lead trumpet in the band in addition to being a powerful soloist. He is also an accomplished composer and arranger and has contributed many of his compositions to the BEJO library. Some of his credits include Johnny Mathis, The 5th Dimension, and Brian Auger in addition to jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Dave Liebman, and Ira Sullivan.
Bill Churchville, Trumpet and Flugelhorn, can be heard in a variety of musical situations from studio orchestras to live big band gigs to jazz quartets. He covers the entire range of possibilities on the trumpet. Formally the lead trumpet player with “Tower of Power”, Bill adds power and strength to the band as both a soloist and a lead player. Some of his long list of credentials includes Elton John, Billy Joel, Yanni, Huey Lewis, and Vanessa Williams.
Jacques Voyemant, Trombone, is in demand throughout the world as a soloist and clinician. He is on the Jazz Faculty of The University of Southern California and well as California State University, Los Angeles. He has appeared with Rosemary Clooney, Dave Brubeck, Al Jarreau, Tom Harrell as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Pasadena Symphony. Jacques adds much to the band as both an ensemble player and as a soloist.
John Rangel, Piano, was born and raised in New York City where he learned how to play piano from his mother and grandmother. He has studied jazz piano privately with Phil Markowitz, Joanne Brackeen, Harold Blanchard, Ritchie Beirach, and Kenny Werner. John has composed hundreds of works in a variety of genres. He is a much sought after jazz pianist, producer, and teacher in the Los Angeles area. He has performed with Nat Adderly, Carmen Bradford, Ira Sullivan, Sam Rivers, Ravi Coltrane, Phil Vieux, Willie Jones III, Billy Higgins, Dwight Tribble, Marcus Printup, Charles Owens, and Dr. Art Davis.
Dino Meneghin, Guitar, is amongst the fastest rising talents on the guitar scene. Adept at jazz, pop, and fusion playing, his credits already include Destiny’s Child, RES, Jimmy Haslip, and Aaron Carter to name just a few. Dino adds a wonderful energy and texture to the band with his playing. Dino received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from the USC Thornton School of Music.
Dan Lutz, Acoustic and Electric Bass, has become one of the busiest young bass players in town due to his all around musical skills. Dan brings positive energy to the band in all of the various idioms and styles the band plays. Dan has performed with Maynard Ferguson,
Barry Manilow, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, and Jack Sheldon.
Dan is currently completing his Master Degree from California Institute
of the Arts.
Marco Meneghin, Drums, twin brother of Dino, is one of the hottest new drummers on the scene. Marco has a solid groove that permeates the bands’ entire repertoire. He has already racked up some very impressive credits including The Clayton Brothers Band, Jeff Hamilton, Louie Bellson, Erinn Williams, and many others. Marco received his Bachelors of Arts degree from the USC Thornton School of Music.
Jazz Composer/Saxophonist, Dr. Bruce Eskovitz was eleven years old when he fell in love with the sound of the tenor saxophone, and by the age of thirteen had begun his professional playing career. While other Southern California teenagers tuned in to rock n'' roll, Bruce hung out with Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, and Stan Getz records until he could play their sound. By the age of twenty, Bruce was composing music for "The Merv Griffin Show." He remembers handing Plas Johnson and Ray Brown his tunes and was encouraged by their positive reaction.
Today Bruce resides in Culver City, CA and has just finished producing his fifth jazz album, Regions, performed by the Bruce Eskovitz Jazz Orchestra (BEJO), an exciting nine-piece ensemble featuring some of the best jazz musicians in Los Angeles. Previous albums include: Bruce Eskovitz/Bill Mays, Conversations (Azica), One for Newk (KOCH Jazz), a tribute to Sonny Rollins which received a 5 star rating in The All Music Guide to Jazz (https://www.tradebit.com). One For Newk features some of the most respected musicians in the jazz arena today: Bill Mays on piano, Ray Drummond on bass, Larance Marable on drums, Charlie Shoemake on vibes, and a guest appearance by saxophone great Ernie Watts on the classic "Tenor Madness". Bruce Eskovitz is in demand as a jazz artist on the L.A. jazz club scene where he appears regularly at Catalina Bar and Grill, Jax Bar and Grill, The Santa Barbara Jazz Festival, California 66, Beverly Hills Affaire in the Garden, The Jazz Spot, Lunaria, The Atlas Bar and Grill, St. Mark''s Club, and Cava.
Bruce has performed and recorded with many great and diverse artists, including Natalie Cole, Freddie Hubbard, Doc Severinsen, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Webb, Bill Watrous, Elliot Smith, Dwight Yoakum, Jane Monheit, The Fifth Dimension, Rita Moreno, Jack Jones, Bobby Vinton, Shari Lewis, Ernie Watts and many other celebrities. He plays soprano, alto and tenor saxophones, flutes and clarinets. Some of his other compositional and performance credentials include the Los Angeles productions of "Beatlemania" and "Timbuktu," countless records and jingles, The John Davidson Show, The Danny Gans Show, The Ebony/Jet Celebrity Showcase, the ABC TV show Santa Barbara, Ollie Mitchell''s Sunday Band, Frank Capp’s Juggernaut, and "The New American Orchestra."
Bruce holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music from California State University, Northridge, and a Masters degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California in jazz composition.
