Details:
Bernadett York, born in Chicago on Halloween 1983, has always carried a deep and serious passion for music and all levels of the arts. She recalls, “ As a little girl there would be times when I’d just sit and listen to the radio and think of ways I could be part of that world…it just never left my veins.” Daylight Savings Time is Ms. York’s first full-length album but has written over forty original songs- in which nineteen of them have been recorded. “I’ve been singing since I was two but the writing came around the age of ten. They started out as poems for a while, then little melodies, and when I learned guitar some years later in the eighth grade- I found a way to put it all together.” Some influences throughout the years include: Bette Midler, David Bowie, Bernadette Peters, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Sade, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, and Carol King (to name a few). The gift of music is something that Ms. York is so very thankful for, and is the sole reason why she decided to go forth and study all that she could about it. In May of 2006 she received her degree in Music Business from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, and plans to use every bit of her studies and experiences to pursue her life long dreams. Ms. York explains earnestly that, “ Being a musician is almost like having the ability to speak every imaginable language there is on earth. You can literally communicate to anyone through the miracle of song and have them feel things that you could never express through words, which has been proven in many ethnomusicology literature and findings. To be a songwriter is to have the perfect opportunity to express yourself and tell your story- when you listen you will learn, and when you play you will teach- well, hopefully!”
