Blood Vessels play primal rock-n-roll. Primal rock-n-roll was the definite inspiration and is the obvious result. Against a backdrop of often-fractured scenes in which bills are booked with careful observance of sub-genres and scenes, Blood Vessels fit on any bill, from street-punk to stoner rock, without conforming or relying on cliches.
Formed in April 2003, the line-up reflects the evolution and re-grouping of several previous bands and projects. Influenced as much by the originators & pioneers of rock n roll, punk, reggae and soul as by early metal, hardcore and even noise, the Blood Vessels are sometimes slow and brooding and sometimes break-neck, and always fueled with guitar sounds that hint at Chuck Berry as much as the Stooges.
In spring 2003, Niff (lead vocalist/guitar player) recruited the original line-up from the remains of his previous band, the Shitehawks, & began playing shows. The next 2 years would see several line-up changes and experiments in sounds, songs, styles & ideas, while the band as a whole began to find itself taking shape.
With Josh Bloomer (drummer for Suspect Device) on bass, ferocious lead guitarist Paul Stefano (former Random Road Mother) and the heavy hitting Sputnik on drums, and with this line-up together for well over a year, the band has been hard at work incorporating existing and new ideas & songs into a tight rock n roll machine, practicing hard and playing plenty of live shows in the process.
Blood Vessels have shared the stage with such acts as The Dead Pets (UK), Easy Action, Darkbuster, and The Unbusted. Blood Vessels will continue to play select dates throughout New England over the winter, and plan to embark upon an East Coast tour in early spring.
The music is inspired by psych-rock and early death and punk rock of the 70''s, from Sabbath & The Stooges to The Damned and The Dead Boys, and by the early 80’s hardcore of Black Flag and Bad Brains.
The band recorded an 8 song song demo in early 2005 that they distributed at shows, and from which they self-released a 3 song limited edition EP that received radio airplay locally. The full length album was recorded and mixed at Mad Oak Studios (Scissorfight, Antler, We''re All Gonna Die) in Allston, MA and mastered at New Alliance East by Nick Zampiello (Doomriders, Cave In). The CD Release party will be January 13, 2006 at Great Scott in Boston, MA.
