About Retirement Plan
We as a band feel we are called of God to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our music, and to show people the love of God through the way we live our lives and via the music we write and play. The concept of "Retirement Plan" came about early in 2004, and by Late December 2004 we saw the vision coming to fruition. The beginning of R.P.B. in January of 2005 was "Marty MacGown" (Acoustic Guitar &Lead Vocals) and "Peter Holman" (Drums & Lead Vocals). We played our first concert January 1st in Portland, Maine with the band "Single Mission". Soon thereafter we were joined by "Doug Nye" (Acoustic Guitar & Lead vocals) and "Seth Poplaski" (Bass Guitar). Then in February 2005 "Peter" underwent surgery to repair nerve damage in his elbow and wrist (The result of years of playing drums and powerlifting) and the band was put on hold for several months while he healed. By May 2005 we were underway with a fresh vision of what God was leading us to do, and a unique blend of original, Contemporary Christian Music, each bringing a different style and flavor. Pete was raised on more of a heavy rock style, Bill, more of a blues guy, Marty, grounded in more of a classical / worshipful approach, and Doug, more of a bluesy, funk kind of guy. November of 2005, Seth had to step down from playing with us, as God had other things for Seth to focus on and He needed to direct his time and energies there. November 19th, our new member of the R.P. B. Family played his first concert with us, "Bill Harris" (Bass Guitar & vocals), affectionately known as "Little Bill". We can also classify ourselves as "Big Band" with Bill standing at almost 6''5, and Pete and Doug both standing over 6 feet, We''re kind of big and we''re a band. (Marty is our normal size guy). I guess one could say God made us BIG!!! Now, in 2006, we are geared up with a fresh vision and slated to release our first c.d. by mid-spring. Our mission remains intact and unchanged. Our purpose as a band is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to as many people as will hear us. Our desire is to work with churches, youth groups, concerts in a park or on the back of a trailer truck rolling through town. "Retirement Plan Band''s" name is derived from Matthew 6:19-21, "Store not for yourself treasures on earth where moth and rust can destroy and thieves can break in and steal, but store up treasures in Heaven where moth and rust will not destroy and thieves can not break in and steal, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also". Our desire is to not be wrapped up in material things, monetary gain, or fame and notoriety. Rather our desire is for people to come to a relationship with our Creator Jesus Christ, or to come to a deeper understanding of who He is and why we are here. What greater treasure can there be than spending eternity with the God who created us, and for as many people as we can tell to join us there. Freely we have received the Gospel of Jesus Christ, thus freely we share it. We do not charge for our concerts but we trust God to lead us where He will have us. Where He guides, we trust Him to provide.
