Satchel Jones has lived the hobo life, travelling from town to village to hamlet to city and back again, over hills and dales, through dense forest and across windswept desert, hopping freight trains, hiding away on ferry boat and cruise liner, careening in corvette and porsche sporty cars, thundering along in eighteen wheeler big rigs hauling anything--rocket fuel, cucumbers, cut virgin forest lumber and Hummers--to the back of station wagons with expectant mothers and their sticky faced chilren and sweating in the southern august swelter, singing at gas-station diners for money to keep the gas in the tank, food in the stomach and the wheels on the road and moving onward tenaciously spining as the blue-green earth remembers that home never stands still and family is everywhere you find it.
Satchel masterfully stretches the boundaries of songwriting to marry the arcane and the contemporary in a genre-bending soundscape that is as full of hope and despair as it is droll and earnest.
