The lights go down in the smoky club. The capacity crowd cheers with anticipation. A voice sounds over the PA. It begins to skip like a broken record. “The bible is…the bible is…” the voice drones as the band takes the stage and powers into a fifty five minute assault. They stop ever so briefly to thank the crowd and maybe announce a song or two. The music swells and builds until it climaxes into an avalanche of sonic fury. The bands storms off the stage.

This could only be a show from Phoenix, Arizona’s own Autumn’s End. Every performance is similar to this. The emotion they emit is palpable. The rage, the hurt, the triumph, they will make you feel it. When they have left the stage you know they meant every second of it. You feel as though you have witnessed an exorcism.

Autumn’s End was founded in late 2002 by former N17 guitarist Chris Cannella. Ha had become disillusioned with the musical direction of his previous projects and the music scene in general. He wanted to get back to his roots and play what he loved…Metal. Chris worked relentlessly on the “Five Cycles of Discipline” EP. He would use this as a template to begin shaping the sound he was after. It would also be used as a recruiting tool to assemble his own Four Horseman that would share his Metal vision. The demo was given to longtime friend Anthony De Jesus (guitar) and aTucson native EL (bass), whom Chris convinced to move to Phoenix. Chris had never played with these guys before. He had never even heard EL play at all, but he had a hunch and it would pay off. The last piece of the puzzle wouldn’t come so easily. It would take two “fill-in” drummers, a year of phone tag and a chance meeting at a local pub to find the drummer they wanted. Another long-time friend Joey Kamka. With all the components in place Autumn’s End has evolved into a complete, cohesive, unit. Good musicians on their own, but together, create something entirely different. Something with a life of its own. A monster that plays with unrelenting ferocity and machine-like precision. The band are on top of their game more than ever.

Autumn’s End have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. They have helped fill the void of original heavy acts both on a local level, as well as a relief from what is being passed off as “Metal” on the radio. They have proved that if you act with a certain amount of professionalism, that you will be treated as such. Also, that you don’t have to write cheesy hooks and songs about high school heartache to have a product that all can enjoy.

It is the kind of strong work ethic and intense drive that has landed Autumn’s End coveted opening slots for such notable national acts: Arch Enemy, Hate Eternal, Vader, Machine Head, Korn, Fear Factory, Danzig, Body Count and Eyes Of Fire just to name a few. Also, it has garnered them endorsements with Jackson Guitar, Mesa Boogie, DR Strings, A & S Cases, Dunlop Picks and HBE Electronics. A luxury most bands only have after they have “made it”.

With the release of their self-titled debut, Autumn’s End took over the local scene and claimed the vacant Metal throne. A seat they have truly earned. The album offered a mere glimpse of things to come. With their sophomore album Act Of Attrition about to be released, Autumn’s End are set to step it up and take it to the next level.

Melding such diverse influences as Johnny Cash, New Model Army, Savatage, Opeth, Meshuggah, Fields Of Nephilim, Skinny Puppy, and Neurosis, Autumn’s End concoct a unique brand of Metal. Whether it is the Fade to Black-esque “Chaos Within” off their debut disc, the doom-tinged “Soiled Wings”, or the epic sprawl of “The Dirge” Autumn’s End created a mood, a sound, all their own. When you hear them, there is no mistake. You are listening to an Autumn’s End song.

Brutal riffs, thundering drums and bass, and tortured vocals give way to melodic acoustic, lush harmonies, and heartfelt lyrics that take the listener through the highs and lows of human emotion. Autumn’s End will bring you into the eye of the storm. Standing in the middle of the sound and the fury. They will leave you wondering if you’ve just been given a glimpse of your salvation or the Apocalypse. They will help you exorcise your demons.

Look out world. Autumn’s End is coming!!
