Details:
There is hype, and then there is reality. The latter never relies on the former. The product speaks for itself.

Three Legged Fox could claim to be the world’s greatest band. The band could boast vast and inexistent legions of fans. Three Legged Fox could even go as far to claim they are receiving major label attention. The truth is Three Legged Fox is an extremely fresh band with sheer talent and amazing potential.

Formed in January 2006, the band comprises of four friends who love playing music to live audiences. Three Legged Fox is structured entirely around being a live performing band.

Based out of Philadelphia, PA, Three Legged Fox plays every live venue and setting they get their hands on—whether it be backing-up singer/songwriter Jeffrey Gaines, rocking Grape St. in Philadelphia, PA, with SOJA (Soldiers Of Jah Army), gigging the bar & college scene at universities, entertaining beach crowds on the eastern seaboard, or simply playing private parties.

Unlike almost all bands, a record deal is secondary to the band. Three Legged Fox values the fan as the most important aspect of what they do, lead singer Kyle Wareham says.

“You have to realize your intentions and motivations for doing something. We play music because we love to. To share that emotion with someone else, and have them experience and love what you love is truly unreal. And that is what we’re after, a true connection with the listener,” says Kyle.

The band understands success isn’t achieved overnight. More importantly, they are extremely dedicated.

“The beginning is the worst. And by beginning, I’m speaking in terms of years. You have to pay your dues; there is no way around it. But, earning the fan base and notoriety is what makes it fun,” lead guitarist Michael Brody says.

“Quitting is the easiest thing you can do,” adds drummer Kory Kochersperger. “If you think about it, you always have two choices. You can take the easy route, or not. Isn’t it funny how the easy route later turns out being the harder route?”

Clearly in it for the long haul, Three Legged Fox releases its debut album “Ideas” October 2006, featuring 11 original compositions and a bonus cut.

“Ideas,” is completely homemade. The audio signal is raw, direct from amp to mic to track, with only finishing touches polished by Joe Lambert of True Tone Mastering in New York City. The songs stem from an entire summer of experimenting with genre, time signature, melody, lyrics and song structure, yielding the perfect mix for a debut album.

Cut entirely in the basement of Kyle’s house on a Korg D-1600 system, “Ideas” is as organic a process you will find today. Recording without any digital editing programs, such as Pro Tools, or high end microphones and outboard gear is unfathomable and extremely difficult to successfully execute—harkening back to a time when albums actually had a real grit and natural feel to them; capturing exactly what the band set out to achieve.

Sticking to a grassroots approach, Three Legged Fox doesn’t compromise its integrity by attempting to tailor the album’s sound to radio or major labels. “Ideas” is an entirely self-financed project, with 100 percent creative control from the band. The music is pure and unfiltered. No executives were involved in the process.

Clocking in at just shy of one hour, “Ideas” displays the band’s exceptional execution and complete command of multiple genres, yet receives no lip service from its band mates.

“We want you to listen to it and tell us what you think,” bassist Eric Weisenstein says. “That is the beauty of music. It is your interpretation of what you hear, not what I want you to hear.”

And that is the difference between hype and reality.
