JAZZ: Smooth Jazz
Darryl Thomas was born in Detroit Michigan and has lived in Milwaukee, WI for over fifteen years. Since the early 80''s he has played guitar on a professional level and over 20 years he has developed his own unique smooth jazz sound.
Mr. Thomas has performed with some of Detroit''s national Jazz and RB artists. Musical talents such as RJ''s Lattest Arrival, Cortz Harris from the group Al Hudson and One Way Band, Anita Baker (when she was with the group Free Spirit), Floaters, Four Tops, Frankie Gaye (brother of the late great Marvin Gaye), September and many others bands in his native Detroit hometown.
He received his forming training in music from his Uncle Roger Thomas, who taught him how to play the Delta Blues. His mother Daisy Willingham saw that her son had talent and enrolled him in music school. Darryl received a Bacelor of Fine Arts Degree from Olivet College in Michigan and a Master Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Whitewater, Whitewater, WI.
Darryl''s musical talents were influenced by legendary jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, George Benson and Kenny Burrell.
While living in Milwaukee he has showcased his talent with many local and national groups both in and out of the city. He performed at many of the jazz festival throughtout the Midwest. He has open for great acts such as Norman Brown, Bonny James and the late great Lou Rawls. Most recently he performed with the Gary Davis Band
in Barbados for the BET Jazz Festival in January 2006.
His latest CD CONVERSTAION FOR TWO,was released this summer. It is said to be sultry, smooth, colorful and easy to listen according to his fans. When you listen to the CD, you will understand why it is titled "Conversation for Two"!
