Details:
Eye Knife is a San Francisco based 3-piece pop-punk band playing all original material. Eyeknife’s sound is the Cardigans seducing the Pixies on the couch while the Smashing Pumpkins show Rilo Kiley how to work a distortion pedal. The band has played in various Bay Area venues including: Elbo Room, The Pound SF, The Crash, Cherry Bar, Kimos, Brainwash, and San Francisco Pride Festival.

Their self-titled CD, released in late November 2005, was produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Bonnie Hayes. In spite of two motorcycle accidents, the drummer breaking his foot, the bass player enduring leukemia treatments, and Caroline moving to a new high school, the album made it to record store shelves in time for the holidays.

"The young lady’s voice has…a quality that breaks men’s hearts.” (City Bike Magazine)

Caroline (Vocals and Guitar) decided at age 12 that listening to music wasn’t enough. Inspired by Gwen Stefani, she saved her allowance for months and marched into her local guitar shop. Passing up flashier instruments, she picked up a gnawed black and white piece of crap guitar and began writing her first songs.

While in middle school, Caroline performed Evanescense, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and White Stripes covers with her friends’ band Black Nails. Later she led a short-lived chick rock band called Spooky Girls. Caroline founded Eyeknife in 2004, at the age of 14, recording a 4 song EP comprised of 3 original songs and a punk arrangement of Howard Ashman’s “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.

Caroline’s vocals have a breathy, heart-breaking quality reminiscent of Norah Jones, and at the other end of the spectrum, have been compared to the emotional and energetic style of Amy Lee (Evanescence).

Johnny Venus (Drums) became a drummer to piss off his parents. In high school he played in hard rock, punk and new wave cover bands gigging all across the Bay Area. Once enrolled in college, he bailed on majoring in Music when he found out that there was singing involved.

Recruited by The Living End, a hard rock band, Johnny left college and became “Johnny Aggro”, crisscrossing the US and getting kicked out of a few towns along the way. He was signed to indie label Ossum Possum Records and was endorsed by Ziljdian cymbals and Dean Markley sticks. After 16 months on the road, The Living End broke up and Johnny went back to college, changing his stage name to Johnny Venus….just in case.

After returning to the Bay Area, Johnny joined the exploding San Francisco indie music scene. He played with various cover and original bands, including a stint as drummer for popular punk band Stunt Monkey. Enticed by Caroline’s powerful song writing and expressive singing voice, Johnny joined Eyeknife in Spring of 2005.

Paul Somerville (Bass) gave his first solo music performance at age 6, playing the harmonica for his thrilled fans. At age 9 he took up saxophone, playing original music in bands whose styles ranged from pop and hard rock, to funk and soul. As a horn player, his most memorable gig was a supporting slot at a No Doubt show, playing with funk band BFJ.

Somerville later toured the western US as the lead singer and saxophonist for the ska band The Conspiracy, opening for Fish Bone, Sublime, The Special Beat (Specials + English Beat), and Pato Banton. The Conspiracy sold out shows in 600 person venues.

Somerville had owned a bass for three years, but had never gotten around to learning how to play until a year ago, after Caroline prodded him to take it up. He was so impressed by Caroline''s song writing he jumped at the chance to join Eyeknife.
