Details:
Two-time Grammy Award winner Ernie Watts is one of the most versatile and prolific saxophone players on the music scene. In a diverse career that has spanned more than thirty years, he has been featured on more than 500 recordings by artists ranging from Cannonball Adderley to Frank Zappa, always exhibiting his unforgettable trademark sound. According to jazz critic Kirk Silsbee, “the virtues we’ve come to associate with Watts include a beautiful Trane-soaked-in-wine tone, fertile harmonic imagination, the blowtorch cry, and the ability to swing at any tempo.”

Watts re-releases this superb audiophile recording on his own Flying Dolphin Records. Watts demonstrates his mastery of the tenor sax in the company of this world class quartet featuring Jimmy Cobb (drums), Mulgrew Miller (piano) and George Mraz (bass). Compositions associated with Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk mark his musical loyalties. He swings and soars through classics such as On Green Dolphin Street and ‘Round Midnight. “These timeless arrangements are great improvisational springboards for a musician to create with,” says Watts. This recording was mastered and manufactured on the audiophile XRCD (extended resolution compact disc), providing the listener with higher fidelity and improved audio quality. Every nuance of the recorded performance was duplicated with outstanding accuracy in both sound quality and imaging. A unique 8-page pocket-package complements this high-end release.
