Kapena’s agent, Ken Thompson writes, "The musical group, Kapena, born 12 years ago in a Waikiki apartment, has staying power that is legendary. They are the most dedicated, hardest working band that I have ever seen in my 25 years in the music industry. At the young age of 25 years old, they were often called one of the "Founding Fathers" of "Island Style Music." Their unique three-part harmony is solely "Kapena Style" and is often copied by others, but never duplicated. Kapena can bring an audience to their feet dancing in minutes and they are such a crowd pleaser that no other band wants to follow them in any show. This band is more that just a group of musicians; they (Kelly, Tiva, and Timo) are tremendous entertainers, who have an uncanny ability to read their audience and give them what they want to hear. Whether it is Tiva’s comical imitation of a "Polynesian Revue" or Kelly’s tearful rendition of a heart breaking song, like "I’ll Build You A Rainbow," they mist up the audience and it turned out to be a great entertaining show every time.
