Jamie''s debut solo album, "Return To Bass" was a bass guitar oriented, genre hopping, instrumental masterpiece - released to much critical acclaim in November 2009. Despite being best known as bass player for Tony Martin (the former Black Sabbath vocalist,) and working as a session player to numerous big names, Jamie has built up quite a fan-base as an experimental, multi-instrumental and somewhat progressive recording artist. Taking all of this into account, this latest release may come as something of a shock. "Slip Away" is essentially a medium paced melodic pop/rock song that will most likely please melodic hard rock fans and more mainstream music fans equally. Jamie proves himself a master of the catchy hook and a very impressive singer/songwriter with a somewhat unique voice with this moody, melodramatic, brooding song. Imagine a mixture of Tom Petty and Marc Bolan and add a little extra drama, and you''re somewhere in the vocal ballpark. "Return To Bass" confirmed Jamie as an inspiringly creative multi-instrumentalist and something of a bass guitar virtuoso. Within the confines of this "don''t bore us get to the chorus" formatted song, Jamie plays tastefully and for the song, yet leaves us in no doubt of his instrumental prowess. One is left wondering what this increasingly prolific recording artist will treat us to next.
