Details:
Described as “Sweat Wet Rock & Roll,” Johnny Austin played their first gig in April 2008 in Austin’s famous Sixth Street district. The band began as a duo, with Jonathan “Johnny D” Dean on vocals and rhythm guitar, and Johnny’s long-time friend and band mate, Scott “Mothership” Hofheins on percussion.

Born and raised in Utah, these two talented musicians played music together in a number of bands over the years, traveling the country and playing venues large and small. Johnny played bass and the acoustic guitar for various bands, ending up in Nashville, Tennessee in 1995, where his band, The Arrleys, scored a record deal and played the legendary Bell Cove Club alongside the Father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe. Johnny and Scott eventually settled in Austin, lured by the vibe of the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Scott nicknamed Jonathan “Johnny Austin” for his love of Austin, and the band was born.

In the summer of 2008, Johnny added two more pieces to Johnny Austin with lead guitarist David “Davey H” Henry and backup singer and bass player Suzanne “Suzy Q” Staton. Davey H honed his formidable guitar chops in El Paso jamming riffs of his idol, Stevie Ray Vaughan, inspiring him to move to Austin in 2005. Originally from Houston, the University of Texas brought Suzy Q to Austin. Likened to a Texas Sheryl Crow, Suzy Q completed the four-piece with strong, tight harmonies and a pure, solid bass foundation created by her one-of-a-kind roseburst Danelectro Longhorn Bass.

Johnny Austin released its debut album, “One of a Kind” in late 2008 and quickly graduated to more prominent clubs on Sixth Street before scoring premier gigs in December 2008 in Austin’s warehouse district and at the Austin Music Hall.

In January 2009, Scott Hofheins left the band to focus on his family and session work and Austin native Joseph “Joey K” Kraft took over the sticks for the group. Joey K has been compared to Beatles Beat Master, Ringo Starr, and is a percussive veteran of the Austin music scene. Joey K brings solid rhythms and an energetic performance style that is a perfect match for lead singer Johnny D.

In the spring of 2010 Davey H graduated from the University of Texas with a business degree and was promptly hired by IBM''s Houston office, taking him away from the band. But before leaving for the big business world he taught Johnny D some lead guitar licks to help him become the lead axe man of the band.

2010 was a banner year for Johnny Austin. From an amazing summer of live performances, the band put together a collection of live tracks, recorded by sound engineer Emmitt Kraft, and released it''s first live album in November 2010.

The summer also brought an offer letter and contract from Century Music Group out of Nashville, & with the signing of the new Developement Deal Johnny Austin''s legendary heart pumping show continues to grow into one of the South''s favorite live acts!
