ffynnon is central to my life. The music we make as a band is some of the best fun I have as an artist and musician. The combination of different disciplines and backgrounds of the band members condenses for me into a fusion of dynamic energy and an expression of our experience of living in a unique minority culture.
I like to sing songs in other languages as well as Welsh. Some I grew up with, some have been given to me like presents from friends, some I’ve learnt from books and recordings.
I choose the songs I sing according to the way they make me feel and which express for me aspects of my own life and experience. Singing traditional Welsh songs allows me, as a Welsh speaker allows me to express the love and respect I feel for my community. If I recognise something which touches me in the story or the sentiments of a song then I can sing it with https://www.tradebit.com great thing about traditional music is that it connects us not only with a modern audience but with all the people who’ve sung the songs over maybe hundreds of years in different places and circumstances. In an early BBC radio recording, the great Welsh folk song collector Dora Herbert Jones recollected a profound feeling of continuity whilst she was singing a traditional Welsh ballad to a conference of musicologists – it’s a sort of immortality that you can plug into.

As a trained professional musician my musical life has been full and extremely varied.I play accordion, harp, low whistle, piano and sing.
ffynnon presents an altogether different kind of challenge from my other musical commitments because it embraces the way I relate to my family and community as a Welsh speaker.
ffynnon offers a unique opportunity to express musically my cultural interests and concerns. Voice, bass and keyboards/ accordion is a wonderful combination. We all come from different musical backgrounds, classical, jazz and folk and they compliment each other perfectly. The resulting musical language is, I believe, culturally unique and I love it!
