Details:
Native Hawaiian Comic, writer, performer KAMAKA BROWN shares his original Hawaiian Pidgin English stories in a quiet, almost hypnotic voice that is unique and warming. He''s taken his kolohe, thoughtful, nostalgic stories of growing up in pre-statehood Hawai''i to audiences in Southern and Northern California, the Pacific Northwest and Hawai''i.

Here''s what just one reviewer said of the show: "This is an offering from a sharp, professional comedian and talented story teller with a full cadre of supporting wits and players. This is a genuine musical presentation with a generous serving of funny stagecraft. What a delight they are. He and his musician friend weave a tuneful spell between stories of childhood thrills, vivid memories and unique adventures. All this played from the perspective of soothing country life in sleepy Hawai''i. Music is played. Philosophy is exchanged and native wisdom shared. And the music! If anyone in the audience does not like the soothing instrumental of a solo acoustic guitar they are "soul deprived" and seriously humor impaired."

Kamaka has been called the “Hawaiian Garrison Keillor” referring to the down-home folksy style of public radio’s “A Prairie Home Companion” host.

"Tales from da Hanabuddah Days" is a unique performance piece. Kamaka shares a language spoken by the contemporary people of Hawai''i. This CD is a collection of original Hawaiian Pidgin English stories. "My dad went to Kamehameha and my mom was raised in Palolo Valley. I grew up on the North Shore of O''ahu in Waimea Valley. My stories are the memories, sights, tastes and smells that are part of my "hanabuddah" DNA."

Academically known as "Hawaiian Creole English" this language is a toss salad mix of the languages of the many ethnic groups that came to the islands to work in the fields. This "Pidgin English, at first frowned upon by the "King''s English" purists, is now a recognized form of communication in Hawai''i.

Joe Thompson is an Ashland, Oregon classical guitarist, composer and teacher. He has an established presence in the Pacific Northwest. He wrote eight original ki ho''alu, Hawaiian slack key pieces to provide a wonderful tapestry of strings behing Kamaka''s stories. Joe''s compositions are magical and a perfect match to Kamaka''s voice.

This is a perfect gift for a Hawaiian or a Hawaiian at heart. A wonderful addition to your collection of spoken word treasures.
