sweet b’jesus – sweet b’bio

sweet b’jesus was formed in 2009, and is a humble, two-person operation that consists of Christian Goutsis and Kevin Dabbs. Being from Calgary and Edmonton respectively, the two band members met over ten years ago, while performing together in professional theatre. Christian Goutsis has been a part of the Alberta arts scene since 1985, when he began acting in theatre, doing some television, and singing and playing in garage bands. Since then, he has become a multiple award winning actor, singer, and composer, who has worked extensively throughout Canada, and internationally over the last 20 years. Kevin Dabbs began playing drums in punk bands in Winnipeg in the 80’s, proud to have shared the bill with the likes of Bif Naked, Nomeansno, Furnaceface, and the Descendents. Kevin moved to Edmonton in the mid 90’s, and has been a fixture in the Edmonton music and theatre scene for well over a decade, as an actor, singer, drummer, and playwright. Collectively, the band has over 40 years of experience in various forms of music and theatre. The two are proud to have worked with, and played with, many great musicians over the years like, Tim Williams, Mike Plume, Chris Wynters, Bob Foster, Jason Kody, Mark Sterling, Andrew Blizzard, Peter Moller, Harley Symington, Paul Shihadeh, Kenny Chalmers, Van Wilmott, Kathy Derkach, Lisa Macdougal, and Steve Hoy, and many others.

policeman''s creek marks the self-produced debut album for sweet b’jesus. It is a 12 song CD full of fun, acoustic and eclectic songs, and was recorded over a period of 8 days in February of 2010, at The Drake Inn, in Canmore, Alberta.

Playing several instruments each, the band’s theatrical and musical influences have allowed them write in several musical styles, while the song-writing leans toward pop on one hand, and country on the other, Policeman’s Creek remains a cohesive album of engaging songs, with catchy harmonies, where each song tells its own story. The album also features great session players from across Alberta like, Derek Stremel, Andrew Blizzard, Christopher Hunt, and Mark Sterling. Sweet b’jesus has been called “Alberta Ween,” and “Ween Light,” which is fitting considering that Ween is one of the band’s influences, and Ween’s Did You See Me?, is the only song on the album that is not a sweet b’jesus original.

Sweet b’jesus is receiving a lot of positive feedback about Policeman’s Creek, and is working hard on their follow-up album, Ferruginous Hawks, that will feature 12 original songs by this exciting new band, to be released in 2012.
